Job Summary:

Serve as scenic shop supervisor for all departmental productions. In conjunction with the Technical Director, manage the use and technical needs of the Barber Theatre for the Department of Theatre. Provide technical support for Departmental classes and presentations. Along with the Technical Director, provide technical support for annual production of the Department of Dance in the Barber Theatre. Serve as scenic, props, lighting, and/or sound designer for up to 4 Department of Theatre productions each season, as assigned.

Job Duties:

Under the supervision of the Technical Director, oversee construction, rigging, and load-in of scenery, props, lighting, and audio equipment for all Department of Theatre productions. Assist the Technical Director in supervising and training student crews for all Department of Theatre productions from pool of theatre majors and minors, students enrolled in theatre classes, work-study students, and student volunteers. Support the pedagogical goals of the Department and college through mentorship of students. Teach and monitor safe working procedures. Seek out and receive regular training in safety procedures related to shop activities. Additional production duties as assigned by the Technical Director, based on skills. Additional duties in the summer in support of Departmental activities, as assigned by the Chair.

Provide technical guidance and/or support for classroom presentations and projects, within the Department of Theatre. Serve as the point person for props requests for students enrolled in Department of Theatre courses. Assist the Technical Director in providing technical and design support for the Advanced Theatre Making One-Act Productions. Oversee the maintenance of the Barber Theatre and associated equipment in the Cunningham Theatre Center (including lighting and sound systems in Room 100 and the Design Studio) for internal and external users. Coordinate technical needs and arrange staffing for non-departmental College users of the Barber Theatre in conjunction with the TD and the Producer.

Serve as lighting, projections, and/or sound designer for no more than 4 productions or class projects annually. Provide technical and/or design support for up to one production annually for the Department of Dance.

Job Breakdown:



  • Serve as scene shop supervisor and assist with technical elements of departmental productions and one dance production per year - 35%
  • Train and mentor students as members of technical work crews for departmental productions - 20%
  • Serve as a designer for 2-4 productions each season as assigned - 20%
  • Evaluate and maintain lighting, sound, video, and rigging systems in Cunningham Theatre Center. Repair and upgrade these systems as necessary. -15%- Essential
  • Participate in advance planning for productions, ensuring that labor and equipment are provided as necessary - 10 % - Essential


Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in theatre or related field;
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience, may include college experience; technical production background in theater.
  • Experience in labor/crew management.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in theatre or related field; 2 years related experience, knowledge of scenic carpentry.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Training:
  • Working knowledge of CAD (preferably Vectorworks) and Q-Lab, experience working with electricity, current theatrical lighting technology, audio and video equipment, digital audio editing skills.
  • Preferred knowledge/experience: theatrical rigging, properties construction, and projection mapping.


Preferred:



  • Vocational training in technical theater.
  • Theatre credits/experience in a collegiate or professional setting specializing in at least one area of production.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



  • Understand basic setup, operation, and maintenance of light, sound, video, and electric systems.
  • Work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively with students, faculty, college technicians, and non-Davidson guest artists.
  • Experience in basic computer programs: email, word processing, spreadsheets.
