DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Civil Engineer, you will assist the Chief of Surveys by performing engineering work in support of roadway design, right-of-way development, and survey-based engineering plan review. You will utilize engineering software to develop roadway alignments to ensure alignment accuracy, minimum curve radius, and grade consistency with current design standards, in addition to reviewing Line, Grade, and Typical Section (LGTS) submissions to confirm that roadway geometry, drainage, and guiderail layouts meet design requirements and constructability standards. You will also be responsible for reviewing in-house right-of-way plans to verify property plots and ensure compliance with PennDOT policies and design criteria. Additional areas of focus include preparing engineering correspondence, review comments, and documentation related to plan evaluations, consultant submissions, and technical findings.

The ability to effectively collaborate is key, as you will be working with in-house design squads to provide engineering input on survey data integration, geometric alignment, and plan accuracy. Throughout your work, you must employ sound engineering practices and principles in order to make informed decisions and judgments related to the completion of work assignments.
