Position Purpose:



Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Systems and Data Center, this position provides analysis, installation, implementation, maintenance and modification of auxiliary software products required to support a multi-platform computer system environment and provide technical systems support to the IR staff and users of the hospital's computer systems.



Nature and Scope:



This position is part of a team that is responsible for the support of a multi-platform environment encompassing IBM Mainframe Z/OS systems, HP Large Systems (HP-UX), IBM P-Series AIX servers, IBM I-Series AS/400 servers and Windows Intel Servers. This position is accountable for installation, customization, maintenance and integrity of the software products for automation of computer operations, enterprise job scheduling and electronic report distribution. This position is accountable for oversight of the technical accuracy and completeness of other components operating systems and the vendor provided computer software programs used to support the operational environment.

The major challenges of this position are to identify and resolve problems to ensure the efficient function and uninterrupted operation of the computer systems; maintain a wide variety of installed software; plan for short and long range software and hardware requirements and implement new software and hardware. This position requires organizational skills to manage multiple unrelated work projects and meet deadlines while maintaining efficiency and stability of the operational production systems.

This position will be primary support of IBM AF/Remote Console Automation, HP OpenView/Operations Automation software and LRS VPS/Anyqueue Report Distribution Software. This position will provide MS Windows system administration support for server used by the supported products. This position will provide secondary support for automation products and report distribution software used on the IBM mainframe system, HP-UX system or the mid-range servers.

This position has the authority under general supervision to determine and modify operational parameters to ensure efficient performance of the programs and systems, determine and request available computer resources and recommend deadlines relative to maintaining the systems performance and stability. Decisions that must be referred to the supervisor include software or hardware acquisitions, personnel management, policy deviations, financial matters and changes that could adversely impact system performance or integrity.

This position is part of a data center team that supports a 24x7 production environment. Off-hours support and weekend work may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

* Thorough knowledge of IBM AF/Remote Console Automation software. Specialized training and knowledge of REXX.

* Thorough knowledge of HP OpenView/Operations software. Specialized training and knowledge of VB Scripting.

-OR-

* Thorough knowledge of LRS VPS AnyQueue and PageCenter Plus software.

* Working knowledge of MS Windows Server 2000/2003 systems administration.

* Working knowledge of IBM Z/OS, HP-UX, AIX, OS/400 or LINUX operating system command and control.

* Working knowledge of command language programming (REXX, CLIST, CL, UNIX Script, VB Script).

* Working knowledge of programming techniques, control language and coding techniques necessary to complete vendor supplied instructions and guidelines.

* Organization skills and knowledge of project management tools to assist with the initiation coordination and control activities related to the installation, implementation and maintenance of integrated software products and processes.

* The ability to apply analytical skills and logical reasoning to resolve problems without causing prolonged or continuous loss of computer production or performance.

* The ability to read and interpret computer documentation, run instructions, hardware operating manuals and user documentation.

* The ability to work as part of a team or work independently depending on the job situation.

* Flexibility to adjust to changing job priorities.

* Ability to provide training and instruction to peers and users of supported computer programs and processes.

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred



Education:



Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Required: Associate's degree in Computer Science, Management Information or a related field. Must have formal training in operating system fundamentals and trouble-shooting. Substitution: Non-degree technical training in conjunction with work experience may be substituted for up to two years of education.



Experience:



Required: three years experience in computer operations or production control in a mid-range or large system environment; or a combinations of three years experience in computer operations and computer programming a mid-range or large systems environment.

Preference: Experience in large systems environment with IBM Z/OS or HP-UX. Experience with computer operations automation, job scheduling or electronic report distribution software installing and maintenance.

Computer / Typing:



Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
