The UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) is the only state and federally funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) in Orange County. UCI MIND is funded through a grant from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and has a rich tradition of basic and clinical research in the fields of brain aging and cognitive disorders. Our mission is to discover means to improve the lives of people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. We also commit substantial effort to community outreach and education, with the goals of keeping the community abreast of our progress, sharing learnings that can help community members reduce their risk for dementia, and increasing awareness of the need for research volunteers to accelerate progress toward improved medical care.

Your Role on the Team

The incumbent will function as a Psychometrist in the interdisciplinary clinical research program on Alzheimer's disease, related dementias, and healthy aging, under the general supervision of licensed Clinical Psychologists specializing in Neuropsychology. This individual will be responsible for the administration of a battery of standardized cognitive tests to elderly research participants and patients at the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) at the UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND). Each psychometrist will be trained to administer varying comprehensive test batteries of neuropsychological tests to assess measures of memory, mental status, language, visual-spatial skills, executive function, processing speed, and depression. As a member of the clinical research team, the incumbent's primary responsibilities include (1) administration of routine and complex batteries of neuropsychological tests to patients and participants in varying clinical research studies, (2) scoring of psychometric tests, (3) interview and collect data from patients/participants and caregivers, and (4) assist with screening and scheduling of patients/participants. Incumbent to this position must be sensitive to the physical and psychological needs of the elderly.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Demonstration of good interpersonal Skills
  • Ability to operate a computer and related software, including strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Training in administering and scoring individual and group psychological tests; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Experience in research and data collection
  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy Guidelines
  • Demonstrated experience performing various neuropsychological tests.
  • Psychological testing technician
  • Training in administering and scoring individual and group psychological tests; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of one-year experience in the administration and scoring of neuropsychological tests
  • Experience working with both healthy and cognitively impaired elderly adults (i.e., persons 65 and older)

Special Conditions:

  • Must be a registered psychological testing technician. Must maintain active status and meet requirements as stated in the California SB1428 (Effective Jan. 1, 2024).
  • Per California SB1428 (Effective Jan. 1, 2024) individuals can administer and score objective psychological or neuropsychological tests, as well as observe and describe the clients' test behavior and test responses, if that individual is registered with the Board as a psychological testing technician, or if the individual is gaining the specified education and training requirements to register as a psychological testing technician. A psychological testing technician shall not select tests or versions of tests, interpret test results, write test reports, or provide test feedback to clients. To register as a psychological testing technician, an individual must meet the following requirements. Have a bachelor's or graduate degree from or be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at, a regionally accredited institution in: Psychology, or; Education specializing in educational psychology, counseling psychology or school psychology; Complete a minimum of 80 hours of education and training, including: At least 40 hours of administering and scoring tests in the presence of a licensed psychologist; At least 20 hours of direct observation, including at least 10 hours of direct observation of a licensed psychologist administering and scoring tests, and at least 10 hours of direct observation of either a licensed psychologist or registered psychological testing technician administering and scoring tests; At least 20 hours of education on topics including law and ethics, confidentiality, and best practices for test administration and scoring. Such education may be obtained by participating in individual or group instruction provided by a licensed psychologist, engaging in independent learning, completion of graduate-level coursework, or taking continuing education; and Pay a $75 fee for registration and ongoing annual renewal.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $28.77- $30.56 (Hourly).
