As a Security Officer - Chemical Institution - Full Time in Portland, TX, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Chemical/Petrochemical, and more. As an Unarmed Patrol Officer at a chemical and petrochemical location, you will monitor and patrol assigned areas, conduct routine rounds, and stay highly visible to help to deter security-related incidents. You will support access control, respond to requests, and document observations with clear communication and strong customer service. Why Join Us: What You'll Do: - Provide customer service to personnel, contractors, and visitors by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities at a chemical and/or petrochemical location.
- Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, including alarms, access control issues, and facility process-area notifications, escalating per post orders.
- Conduct regular and random patrols of buildings, process-adjacent areas, tank farm and/or pipe-rack corridors, parking areas, and the perimeter to help to deter unauthorized activity and/or hazardous conditions, as directed by site policy.
- Control access at designated entry points by verifying identification, checking authorization, issuing visitor credentials, and directing traffic flow in accordance with site requirements.
- Monitor CCTV, intrusion alarms, fire and/or gas detection panels, and other site systems when assigned, reporting abnormal conditions and following notification procedures.
- Complete security-related reports, incident documentation, and shift logs with clear, accurate details, including patrol findings and follow-up actions.
- Perform vehicle and/or pedestrian screening as directed, including inspection of deliveries, contractor tools, and packages in accordance with site procedures and applicable regulations.
- Support emergency response activities by coordinating notifications, assisting with area control, and guiding responders and/or employees per site instructions.
- Enforce site rules related to restricted areas, photography limitations, and prohibited items, providing clear directions and documenting non-compliance as required.
- Communicate with site operations, maintenance, and supervision using radios and/or phones, relaying status updates and requesting assistance when needed.
- Conduct key control and/or badge accountability tasks as assigned, including tracking issuance and recovery per site policy.
- Maintain a professional presence and provide directions and assistance to employees and visitors while supporting a respectful, customer-focused environment.
Minimum Requirements: - A guard card and/or license is preferred.
- Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
