Job Description




As a Security Officer - Shelter Foot Rounds in Jamaica, NY, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Shelter, and more. As an unarmed Patrol Officer at a shelter location, you will monitor and patrol assigned areas, conduct routine rounds, and stay visible to help to deter security-related incidents. You will support staff and residents with clear communication, quick reporting, and respectful customer service. What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service to staff, residents, visitors, and/or vendors by carrying out security-related procedures, location-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, including disputes, disturbances, medical calls, and/or fire or alarm activations, and communicate updates to site leadership and/or responding agencies as needed.
  • Conduct regular and random foot and/or vehicle patrols of the shelter location, including interior common areas, exterior grounds, entrances, exits, stairwells, and/or parking areas, to help to deter unauthorized activity and identify hazards or maintenance concerns.
  • Control access to the location by monitoring entry points, assisting with visitor check-in as directed, and confirming authorization for entry, services, and/or deliveries per site-specific policy.
  • Monitor cameras, alarm panels, and/or other security-related systems when assigned, and report unusual activity, malfunctioning equipment, and/or policy violations through the appropriate channels.
  • Complete detailed daily activity reports and incident reports, including accurate descriptions, times, and actions taken, and maintain required logs such as patrol tours, visitor logs, and/or key control logs.
  • Provide support during resident intakes, discharges, and/or curfew periods as directed, including observing common areas and coordinating with onsite staff regarding behavioral concerns.
  • Support de-escalation efforts by maintaining a professional presence, using clear verbal direction when appropriate, and requesting additional assistance when needed.
  • Assist with emergency evacuations and/or shelter-in-place procedures as directed by site policy, and help guide residents and visitors to designated areas.
  • Follow post orders, communication protocols, and uniform standards, and participate in required training and briefings provided by Allied Universal and/or the location.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license will be required for driving positions only.
