Job Description
Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) designs, develops, and manufactures advanced composite components in order to help our customers push the frontiers of innovation. Our core strength is our ability to produce highly tailored, complex composite components. With our unique blend of products - including 3D woven structures, traditional and non-traditional 2D composite structures, and discrete through thickness reinforcement technologies, to name a few - AEC is able to produce composite components and products which meet performance and cost specifications often beyond the reach of metallic or conventional laminated composites.
Job Purpose
The Director of Operations will have 10+ years of demonstrated leadership experience in a world class manufacturing environment including a regulated industry. Bachelors Degree in engineering or operations science required and a Masters Degree is a plus. He/she will have facility level leadership responsibility to bring materials management / supply chain, engineering, program leadership, quality, manufacturing, customer support, human resources and administrative functions together as a team in a single plant environment with a combination of dotted line and straight line reporting relationships. The Director of Operations will have accountability for the safety, quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness performance, continuous improvement performance, employee engagement and teamwork of the facilities that they manage and will be responsible for the development of facility leadership team.

- Responsible for the overall direction of the facility, and accountable for achieving EBITDA growth targets and annual operating plan objectives.
- Develop, interpret and implement the 1 to 3 year vision for Continuous Improvement, Capital investments, manpower planning in this facility within the context of the Albany Production System and divisional level CI leadership guidance. Establish a culture of Continuous Improvement including use of all appropriate tools such as standard work for shop floor and leaders, visual factory, value steam implementations, moonshine shop availability, 5 / 6S implementation with audits, hoshin planning, continuous (but controlled and measurable) kaizen activities and an overarching management system implementation.
- Grow the distributed ownership and content of the Quality System within the context of the overall AEC Quality System. Be able to lead agency and registrar audits if necessary. Foster a culture of compliance to the quality system.
- Lead the development and execution of annual facility operating plans including the effective communication and cascading of objectives.
- Identify capital equipment / building needs that correspond with business growth in advance of the need to maximize customer confidence, employee productivity and sales / EBITDA growth.
- Grow and deepen the use of SAP within the facility. Establish super users, review and improve standards regularly, drive accuracy and system use for the purpose of monitoring performance without offline systems needs except for visual factory and to appropriately and effectively plan and implement facility capability / capacity needs to support growth strategies and near term production needs.
- Develop a positive relationship with all facility customers based upon operational excellence and consistent, dependable execution. Work with program development and customer support within the facility to improve customer satisfaction through better overall execution tied to agreed-to KPIs.
- Work collaboratively with GM, and other Site Operations and the divisional level Operations Leadership Team to successfully and seamlessly deliver to customers an integrated set of services and products. Incumbent is a member of AEC Operations Leadership Team.
- Grow true employee engagement to world class levels through CI, inclusion and driving decision making to value stream / work cell levels.
- Continuously assess and improve talent to deliver scalability and growth requirements. Work seamlessly with HR to recommend and execute personnel actions including hiring, promotions, performance review and any disciplinary measures within AEC policy and procedure definition.
- Work collaboratively with division level Health and Safety to drive Zero Incident mentality into the facility workforce. Reduce worker's compensation, incidents, near misses and raise awareness.
- Identify and implement cost improvements through CI / Lean Manufacturing techniques on the shop floor and across business processes in the office and support areas.
- Achieve targets and communicate performance to all identified KPIs according to published intervals for review. This to include all related reasons and data.
- Comply with all work rules including those pertaining to safety, health, quality and AEC Quality Management System.
- Create presentations and report out for the sites health within each program.
- Set site goals and objectives to meet or exceed site financial plans
- Performs other duties as necessary.

Experience/Education/Skills
Qualifications/Characteristics
- Demonstrated ability to assess current culture and transform to embrace Lean / CI.
- Working knowledge of capacity planning, supply chain and logistics management.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively transfer development projects / programs into production effectively including new equipment, new technology, approaches and new processes. Embrace and pull!
- Demonstrated leadership and team building skills at the manager level with those who do not report in directly to this position.
- Ability to interface with customers, problem solve and drive solutions to meet customer requirements.
- Exposure to quality and engineering in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of ISO AS9100, NADCAP, OSHA, EPA and related aerospace regulations.
- A Six Sigma Green or Black Belt and /or demonstrated CI / Lean background and root cause / corrective action success.
- Basic financial knowledge and understanding of P&L, balance sheet and income statement. Has developed and executed annual operating plans.
- Presence and initiative to grow revenue.
- Strong communicator: written and verbal (one-on-one and group).
- Strategic thinker: responsible for developing the plan; ability to conceptualize coherent view of facility in the future (6 months, one year, two years, five years).
- Rational thinker: good business judgment.
- Top grader / holds others accountable in a firm but fair way.
Working Conditions
Indoor production environment, duties performed indoors, adequate lighting and comfortable temperatures. Occasional exposure to moderate noise and machinery with mechanical moving parts. Ability to work 24/7 schedule and be available as business situations required, Travel may be required.
Physical requirements
Occasionally positions self to move an office item >35 lbs.
Frequently move about the production floor and office area to attend meetings or trainings
Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 75% of the time
Frequently operates a computer, enters data into systems, verifies information, etc.
