DESIGN INTEGRATION EXECUTIVE

The Design Integration Executive serves as a bridge between design and construction, overseeing the integration of architectural, engineering, and construction disciplines on design-build projects. This role ensures that design intent aligns with constructability, budget, schedule, and client expectations. Acting as a key liaison with the client, the Design Integration Executive leads collaboration across diverse teams, mitigates risks, and drives innovative, cost-effective solutions that deliver high-quality, fully integrated projects. This position requires a unique balance of technical expertise, leadership, and client management skills, blending the perspectives of architect, contractor, and client advocate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in CM@R, Design-Build, Integrated Project Delivery, or similar project delivery methods.
  • Strong understanding of architectural, structural, MEP, and civil design processes, construction means and methods, building systems, and project execution.
  • Proven experience managing interdisciplinary project teams (design and construction).
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, permitting processes, and design-build contracts.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.


Preferred:



  • DBIA (Design-Build Institute of America) Certification or equivalent.
  • Professional licensure in architecture, engineering, or construction (RA, PE, or PMP).
  • Experience in multiple markets (Federal, commercial, healthcare, industrial, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) methodologies.
  • Familiarity with insurance, bonding, and contractual/legal frameworks in design-build delivery.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, LEED, or relevant construction management credentials.

  • 2+ years of related experience, including experience with self-perform capabilities
  • Demonstrated experience building strong partnerships and trust with external partners, including owners, owner's representatives, design firms, and subcontractors

OFFICE AND TRAVEL:

Extensive national travel to Federal construction projects and business development opportunities anticipated to average three to five days per month over the course of a year.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

Integrated Project Management



  • Oversee project schedules, budgets, and deliverables across both design and construction phases.
  • Solicit Professional Services proposals and negotiate contract terms for design services.
  • Lead interdisciplinary coordination meetings to ensure alignment and resolve conflicts.
  • Apply DBIA best practices and integrated delivery principles to optimize outcomes.


Design Integration



  • Oversee the development and maintenance of progressive design integration processes, BIM workflows, quality control procedures, and design milestone submittal requirements.
  • Facilitate design reviews for design consistency, constructability, budget compliance, and adherence to client goals and regulatory standards.
  • Anticipate design challenges and propose practical, cost-effective alternatives.
  • Ensure seamless transition from design development to construction execution.
  • Identify early procurement packages and construction packages required during the design phase necessary to meet the project schedule requirements.


Collaboration & Communication



  • Act as the client liaison throughout the design phase, maintaining trust and managing expectations.
  • Facilitate design phase Pull Planning sessions with design-build team to optimize workflow, improve collaboration, and align the design and construction teams to achieve predictable, efficient progress.
  • Foster open communication between creative design teams and construction teams, balancing priorities of aesthetics, function, cost, and schedule.
  • Provide regular updates to executive leadership and stakeholders.


Constructability & Value Engineering



  • Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising design quality.
  • Identify potential constructability and budget issues during the design phase and coordinate solutions to mitigate delays and cost overruns.
  • Support sustainable and innovative design practices where applicable.


Risk & Compliance Management



  • Monitor and mitigate risks including design flaws, permitting challenges, material shortages, and code compliance issues.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual, legal, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation and records.


Technology Integration



  • Utilize BIM and other collaboration platforms to coordinate designs and resolve conflicts before construction.
  • Champion the use of digital tools to enhance transparency, accuracy, and team efficiency.


Other Duties



  • Collaborate with the Federal Team to support shared goals.
  • Represent McGough professionally at company and industry events.
  • Attend meetings and pursue ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in Lean events and initiatives to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support team and project success.


Post-Construction



  • Perform pre-punch with an aim at providing a "zero item" punchlist
  • Manage the punchlist process
  • Assist in preparing final as-built plans and documentation
  • Review project close-out documentation for accuracy and completeness


Other Responsibilities



  • Participate in business development activities (client functions, design firm open houses, conferences, etc.)
  • Foster relationships with clients, architects, engineers, consultants and subcontractors
  • Attend and participate in project management and other company meetings
  • Attend any training - personal and/or professional development - that is relevant to the position
  • Attend company-sponsored events
  • Support and follow standard of work
  • Participate in Lean events and support the McGough Way
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time at employee's work station. Employee needs to be able to lift up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and ability to distinguish between colors on graphs and charts.

Occasionally, employee will be required to visit construction jobsites which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.

In alignment with our commitment to pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $170,000 to $220,000, excluding fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you join McGough, your final base salary will be determined by several factors, including geography, location, skills, education, and experience. Furthermore, we place significant value on pay equity among our current team members as part of any final job offer.
