OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Director of the Shelter, the Janitor will clean assigned areas regularly and assist in maintaining overall standards of cleanliness in the shelter.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Vacuuming all carpeted areas.
  2. Sweeping and mopping all hard surfaced flooring.
  3. Buffing tiled floors.
  4. Dusting all surfaces including office desks, counters and windowsills.
  5. Trash collecting for entire building.
  6. Bathroom cleaning of toilets, floors, counters, sinks, showers, and mirrors.
  7. Replenishing bathroom supplies as needed.
  8. Assist as needed in the Social Service area (such as lifting and unloading supplies.)
  9. Keeping inventory of all janitorial supplies.
  10. Assist with the weekly Shower Program, as needed.
  11. Program set-up of tables and chairs as assigned.
  12. Daily communication with Office Manager.
  13. Changing of lights as needed.
  14. Cleaning of all corps vehicles.
  15. Performing any other work necessary to maintain the appearance, cleanliness and safety of the shelter building.
  16. Assist with pickup of supplies as needed.
  17. Be able to assist in serving food, cleaning, washing dishes, throwing trash after meals when needed.
  18. Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Shelter Services


KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS



  • Must be a high school graduate or have equivalent GED.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple duties.
  • Ability to prioritize work and multi-task simultaneous projects.
  • Be cordial, friendly, and professional in carrying out job responsibilities.
  • Possess maturity and confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English is required. bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Have good interaction skills.
  • Interact professionally in all contact with the public and Salvation Army Officers and staff.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Education in social services/substance abuse helpful.
  • Some experience with disadvantaged populations, whether through work, volunteering, or being a member of a disadvantaged population required.
  • Trained or received training on informal mental health/ substance abuse evaluation.
  • Possess good communication skills.
  • Interact professionally in all contact with the public and Salvation Army Officers and staff.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Must be a high school graduate or have equivalent GED.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Some experience with disadvantaged populations, whether through work, volunteering or being a member of a disadvantaged population required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  1. Frequent lifting of 30 pounds or more;
  2. Frequent climbing of ladders;
  3. Good mobility with the ability to climb, crawl, bend and have good dexterity in regard to grasping, reaching, and handling.


EQUIPMENT USED:

Basic Janitorial supplies including mops and brooms, floor-cleaning machines and vaccum clearners, chemical mixing, etc.
