Location: Deer Island (Winthrop), MA
Salary: $19 - $22 per hour
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:00pm

Key Responsibilities



  • Assistance with collection and preserving samples for microbiology and chemistry analysis
  • Assists with other chemical, physical or biological laboratory testing.
  • Performs harbor, river and bay sampling from a boat or van and related duties in support of the MWRA's monitoring programs.
  • Enters data into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Performs related laboratory duties, calibrating field instruments and preparing materials for field sampling. (e.g. buffers/quality control standards).
  • Records field and laboratory data on paper and in data logger.
  • Enters data into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Reports to a Laboratory Supervisor II
  • Assist with the measurement of in-situ water quality parameters (temperature, pH, total and free chlorine)
  • Adhere to standard laboratory practices and safety requirements.
  • Perform field water quality testing, as required.
  • Assist in the collection of other water quality samples, as needed.
  • Perform related duties as required.



Required Qualifications



  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to perform careful laboratory manipulations.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Internship Period: May - Sept.
  • The preferred candidate will be at least a junior in a science or environmental major.
  • The candidate should have some chemistry laboratory skills and have a general understanding of laboratory procedures.
