Posting Period: 1/21/2026 to 2/3/2026 Location: Deer Island (Winthrop), MA Salary: $19 - $22 per hour Work Schedule: Saturday - Wednesday 7:00am - 3:00pm Key Responsibilities
- Assistance in processing and preservation of samples for microbiology and chemistry analysis.
- Performs microbiology and chemistry laboratory analyses related duties in support of the MWRA's monitoring programs.
- Enters data into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Performed laboratory analysis, including enumeration of bacterial pollution indicators such as Enterococcus using prescribed procedures.
- Assists with other chemical, physical or biological laboratory testing.
- Performs related laboratory duties, calibrating field instruments and preparing materials for field sampling. (e.g. buffers/quality control standards).
- Records field and laboratory data on paper and in data logger
- Reports to a Laboratory Supervisor II
- Adhere to standard laboratory practices and safety requirements.
- Perform field water quality testing, as required.
- Assist in the collection of other water quality samples, as needed.
- Perform related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Ability to perform careful laboratory manipulations.
- Good communication skills.
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Internship Period: May - Sept.
- The preferred candidate will have completed at least the Sophomore year in a science or environmental major.
- The candidate should have some chemistry/microbiology laboratory skills and have a general understanding of laboratory procedures as demonstrated by completing at least four chemistry/biology/microbiology laboratory courses.
