Position Summary: The Intern, Incoming Inspection will learn the basics of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and surface plate inspection and will utilize these skills to measure complex machined and molded components. They will assist with analysis of inspection data to identify areas for implementing inspection reductions. The Intern, Incoming Inspection will support various projects within the team during their internship.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Learn to inspect mechanical components through traditional surface plate inspection techniques and the utilization of common inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gages, gage blocks, thread gages, optical comparators, and other related tools.
- Learn to operate within the Enterprise Resource Planning tool (Oracle) to track and process inspected parts and research part movements.
- Provide inspection support for a variety of machined and molded components, outside-supplied processes, and raw materials.
- Assist with creating and executing Gage R&R studies for a variety of equipment such as Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and optical 3D scanning equipment.
- Assist with metallurgical inspections and metallurgy lab operations.
- Aid in identifying new inspection equipment with a focus of reducing inspector workload and reducing inspection times.
- Work with Supplier Quality Engineering to verify inspection failures and determine product disposition with a focus on reducing or eliminating inspection errors.
- Advise on areas for potential streamlining of inspection procedures while maintaining quality and increasing throughput.
- Advise on new technology to aid in annual capital planning for new equipment acquisition.
- Resolve quality issues related to product and processes using statistical methods.
- Track department performance metrics relative to established goals and post results via visual management.
- Provide consultation on problem solving teams and complete assigned tasks per agreed upon timelines.
- Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
- May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
- May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.

Education/Experience & Skills:
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Must be organized, able to work in a team, plan, and execute multiple projects. * Written and verbal communication of complicated subjects is required.
- Must be able to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Must have strong analytical skills, basic manufacturing process knowledge, and basic project management skills.
- Must be able to clearly, concisely and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
- Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
