Responsibilities

As a Senior UX Researcher, you will drive human-centered strategy, set product direction, and contribute directly to ongoing product development by integrating insights into human behaviors, attitudes, practices, and norms. Working with product partners, you will drive short and long-term research plans to fill in knowledge gaps, prioritize inclusion, identify risks, inform product decisions, and conduct analyses to distill quantitative and qualitative data into actionable insights that represent the voice of the customer. This opportunity will allow you to draw from diverse and inclusive methodologies spanning from generative to evaluative to predictive to support product innovation and iteration.

You will conduct research that defines the customer in order to inform product strategy for a product, product line, or service. You'll also help create new solutions and apply UX testing to uncover insights for continuous improvements.
You will study the entire funnel to gain insights into user behavior and understand churn and the reason for a product, product line, or service. You'll also study industry and vertical trends to reduce uncertainty.
You will collaborate in cross-disciplinary research efforts. This will involve coaching various stakeholders, providing research tools, recruiting programs for research, and putting on large-scale customer learning events.
You will work directly with Microsoft customers and partners, consulting on UX research best practice and helping them deliver world-class solutions using Microsoft technology.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

Doctorate in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 1+ year(s) User Experience Research experience
- OR Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 3+ years User Experience Research experience
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 4+ years User Experience Research experience
- OR equivalent experience.

3+ years relevant domain experience within technology sector.
3+ years experience in research methods impacting both product direction and detailed experience design.
Experience in business applications and enterprise product research.
Experience leading horizontal initiatives and scaling research impact across multiple teams.
Skilled in foresight methods (e.g., STEEP, trends analysis, scenario planning), futures studies, or strategic design.
Skilled in model evaluations with a focus on end user experience and success.
Passion for learning new technologies and understanding diverse user needs.
Experience with research tools such as Qualtrics, Dscout, UserTesting, and emerging AI research platforms.

Demonstrated impact in delivering research that has influenced product direction and improved user experiences at scale.
Experience with foundational and evaluative research methods, including large-scale studies, usability testing, and statistical analysis (R, Python, SQL).
Strong collaboration and communication skills across disciplines and levels of seniority.
Deep understanding of trends in generative AI, AI/ML systems, and responsible AI principles.

UX Research IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
