Position Summary
Operate and maintain offshore pedestal/knuckle-boom cranes on subsea vessels or platforms, executing lifts for materials, equipment, and personnel-including subsea operations-with strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
Duties And Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL:
- Perform crane operations safely and efficiently, handling heavy loads per lift plans and load charts.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections on crane components such as wire ropes, sheaves, hooks, hydraulics, and safety devices, log checks daily.
- Plan and execute lifts: interpret load charts, maintain exclusion zones, and coordinate deck-vessel transfers under dynamic sea conditions.
- Lead pre-lift briefings, confirm rigging setup, communication channels, and permit-to-work coordination.
- Manage subsea lifts with active heave compensation and specialized method statements for personnel baskets, long/oversized loads, or hazardous materials.
- Monitor vessel deck conditions with Bridge/DP team to select optimal weather windows and timing for safe operations.
- Supervise riggers, employ proper signaling and tag-line control, and prevent side-loading or shock-loading.
- Initiate emergency procedures, including stop-work, safe crane state securing, emergency lowering, and power-loss recovery.
- Perform first-line maintenance: lubricate, inspect hydraulic levels/filters, wire rope checks, and minor repairs.
- Keep accurate records: lift plans, checklists, deviation reports, logbooks, and documentation for all crane operations.
- Participate in safety meetings, emergency drills, and ongoing training.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Certification: Offshore Crane Operator (OPITO Stage 2 or Stage 3 as applicable).
- Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of operating cranes on offshore vessels/platforms; subsea heavy-lift experience common.
- Competence with crane types: Pedestal, knuckle-boom, lattice-boom, with subsea/heave-compensated cranes preferred.
- Technical skills: Strong understanding of load charts, maritime regulations, rigging, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures.
- Physical & interpersonal: Capable of long offshore shifts in challenging environments; excellent communication, leadership, teamwork, and decision-making skills.
- Certification & documentation: Valid TWIC, medical fitness, and any required national/regional permits.

- Rotational schedule (e.g., 28 days on / 28 days off), requiring adaptability and resilience.

This position is considered HEAVY work.
