About the Role

MWH is seeking a Field Engineer Intern to support construction activities on a large water and wastewater infrastructure project in Austin, TX. In this role, you'll work directly in the field alongside project management, field engineering, and supervision teams, assisting with day-to-day construction operations and gaining hands-on experience on an active, large-scale jobsite.

This opportunity is well suited for students who are safety-minded, detail-oriented, and eager to learn through real-world field experience. The Field Engineer Intern role offers exposure to construction layout, quality control, material coordination, and field documentation, providing a strong foundation for a long-term career in construction or engineering while developing a practical understanding of how major infrastructure projects are built.

Essential Functions



  • Follow all company health, safety, and environmental policies to ensure a safe jobsite.
  • Support daily field operations in coordination with Field Engineers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, and craft supervision.
  • Assist with basic construction layout, measurements, and verification of lines, grades, and elevations.
  • Perform routine field observations and quality checks to verify work aligns with approved plans, specifications, and permits.
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs, material tracking, deliveries, and inventory coordination.
  • Provide field support to supervision and craft labor to help facilitate safe, efficient construction activities.
  • Support project documentation, including daily reports, progress photos, sketches, and tracking logs.
  • Assist with processing and tracking RFIs, submittals, and construction documentation.
  • Help maintain current working drawings by incorporating approved RFIs and changes.
  • Perform basic calculations, communicate with vendors as needed, and support schedule updates and progress tracking.


Basic Qualifications



  • In progress toward earning a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related degree.
  • Interest in a career in heavy construction.
  • Experienced with complete Microsoft Office Suite, excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities for working in diverse team environments with staff, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Experience with/aptitude for construction and/or mechanical processes.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Prior internship experience in the heavy construction industry.


Compensation



  • The anticipated salary for this position is between $23 - 26/hr
