The CAD Drafter I supports the preparation of construction drawings and documentation for natural gas transmission and distribution projects. Work typically includes drafting aerial line work, basic plan and profile layouts, and wet utility details. This role is ideal for individuals with strong CAD drafting skills who are developing their understanding of utility design. The CAD Drafter I is expected to accurately interpret and draft from utility record drawings and collaborate with designers and engineers to produce clear and consistent electronic drawings.



Responsibilities

    Utilize AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Plant 3D to prepare construction drawings under the direction of designers and engineers.
  • Maintain organized drawing files, reference data, and project documentation.
  • Incorporate markups, design changes, and redlines into drawings in a timely manner.
  • Assist with basic field verification, existing conditions documentation, and data collection as needed.
  • Apply drafting standards and utility drawing requirements consistently across all work.
  • Collaborate with the design team to ensure accurate representation of project intent in all drawings.
  • Interpret and draft from utility record drawings, survey data, and field notes with accuracy.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong proficiency in CAD drafting, including AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D and/or Plant 3D preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret utility record drawings, asbuilts, and basic engineering sketches.
  • Understanding of plan and profile drawings, aerial line layouts, and wet utility configurations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate technical drawings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with designers, engineers, and peers.
  • Basic knowledge of utility infrastructure, construction documentation, or related technical concepts.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and standard project communication tools.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience drafting for natural gas or other utility projects.
  • Exposure to aerial mapping, GIS data, or survey information.
  • Experience incorporating QA/QC feedback and applying drafting standards.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat or other markup tools.
Metrics:
  • Performance will be evaluated based on the timely and accurate completion of assigned project work

The pay range for this California position is $26.00- $32.00 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162.
