The City of Aspen is an Equal Opportunity Employer _______________________________________________________________ The Youth Services Officer serves as the department's liaison with the schools in our area and youth service agencies. The role is specialized within the Aspen Police Department and focuses on providing wraparound services to our youth population, particularly those at risk. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong initiative, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to support and mentor youth. They will have a proven history of working independently and effectively without direct supervision, making sound decisions and achieving positive results. Job Title: Youth Services Officer Department: Police Classification: Non-Exempt Hiring Range: $47.92/hour - $53.91/hour Salary Range: $47.92/hour -$71.88/hour _______________________________________________________________ Position Summary: Performs duties of a youth investigator and a School Resource Officer in all areas of Law Enforcement and Public Safety, consistent with the organization's values and mission statement. Protects and enhances the safety of youth residing in Pitkin County from acts committed against them (abuse, neglect) or by them (crime, delinquency, status offenses). Serves as the department in liaison with the schools in our area and youth service agencies. The Youth Services Officer position is primarily school-based but may also provide support to the Human Services Officer program and patrol as needed. NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge, and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above. NOTE: This position requires the candidate to successfully pass a criminal background check, physical examination, polygraph test, drug test, and psychological examination upon hire. The drug test will be completed at PROCOM - Glenwood Springs, and the physical examination will be conducted at Grand River Health Clinic West - Parachute. Ability to run short distances while maintaining job performance capability (talking on the radio, talking to the suspect and being able to shoot if needed), stooping, kneeling, crouching, and balancing to prevent stumbling or falling in adverse weather conditions and terrain. Hearing corrected to normal and vision corrected to normal ranges including night vision. Physical requirements needed in arrest situations: balancing, grabbing, pulling, bending, twisting, receiving blows, spinning, falling, defensive and offensive arm swings, defensive and offensive kneeling and kicking with legs, and excellent hand/eye coordination. Pursuit: Flexibility and strength - stamina to sustain sitting, driving and standing for prolonged periods. Fitness for Duty Testing: Officers must participate in and satisfactorily complete "Fitness for Duty" testing every two years, unless otherwise noted. Testing includes: Assist in Maneuvering of Objects/Persons to Safety (lifting 50 pounds from floor to knuckle height, 5X unassisted), drag person to safety (ability to drag 150 pounds for 30 feet, unassisted), ascend, descend 5 stairs (repeated 10X), and demonstrate foot patrol/pursuit of suspects (run 400m - 1 lap of track, in 3 minutes).
