Baxter's Advanced Surgery portfolio of products and programs are foundational to the cadence of surgery, just as surgeons, nurses, and administrators are essential to the art of healing. Clinically-proven products allow surgical teams freedom to innovate and think creatively without restraint in the operating room. Best-in-class programs provide a holistic approach to optimizing patient care.

The OrthoBiologic business within Advanced Surgery is a $20m global business participating in >$2.3b total addressable market. When this business was acquired by Baxter it produced ~$55m in sales and has been in significant decline for +5 years. Currently products are being sold in 17 different countries.

The OrthoBiologic global business leader will be tasked with creating and executing a global growth acceleration plan that profitably grows this languishing asset by >10% annually. Building a fully cross functional team, with full PNL responsibility, this leader will be visible at the plant and with customers. Engaging in all functional decisions through direct and indirect relationships this business leader will steward this business and organization to great impact in the market and within Baxter.

This business leader will need executive level presence and behavior to be successful in this role. Daily they will be interacting with other Baxter employees up to a VP level internally, but more importantly they will be regularly interacting with business owners, hospital VP's and sometimes government officials externally.

Position Summary

  • This individual is the Business Leader of the OrthoBiologics product portfolio which includes Actifuse, AltaPore, Inductigraft, and Ostene.
  • This individual is responsible for PNL management and associated decisions to drive profitable growth
  • This individual is responsible for setting strategic priorities to grow the business
  • This individual is responsible for operational effectiveness and driving OTIF, appropriate inventory levels, and market inventory reflective of customer needs
  • This individual is responsible for portfolio decisions, project funding, and portfolio initiatives that drive profitable growth
  • This individual engages in Geographic expansion, driving business relationships that open new markets to accelerate growth.
  • This individual owns the organizations operating mechanisms, delivering business updates across Baxter as needed.
  • Completes monthly A.C.E. check-in calls with each employee to discuss what is working and what is not
  • Ensuring all direct team members comply with all travel policies, interactions with Health Care Providers, interactions with competitors, and confidential information
  • Ensuring all direct team members complete training requirements on time and adhere to all regulatory/ad prom policies and procedures

Critical Responsibilities

Partner closely with cross functional team to lead the business to:

  • Global & US long-range plans (LRP) and investment plan
  • Establish functional performance objectives and operating mechanisms to drive accountability
  • Market selection
  • Collaborate with R&D, Clinical, Market Access, Regulatory, Manufacturing
  • Develop commercial partnerships to accelerate growth

Develop key global business relationships to broaden OrthoBiologic brand awareness

  • Support portfolio strategy including the product road map and life cycle management
  • Support product training

Key Qualifications

  • 15+ years of Medtech commercial experience
  • Strong results orientation and analytical skills.
  • Experience in developing pricing strategies, familiarity with business cases and financial models, creative product/program development, messaging and branding.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with a cross-functional team
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Must understand, embrace, and exhibit Baxter's culture levers of Speed, Simplicity, Courage and Collaboration to help Baxter achieve a compliant and winning culture.
  • Clinical/ Therapy Knowledge: Acquires and demonstrates the ability to apply role-specific level of understanding of relevant specialty areas, therapies/surgical procedures, disease states, and clinical data with our customers.
  • Business Acumen: Understands business, industry and marketplace, including competition; strategically applies this knowledge effectively to achieve business goals.
  • Management & Coaching: Exhibits key capabilities to attract, develop and promote qualified diverse staff. Includes developing positive and constructive feedback skills; understanding and applying feedback methodologies; developing emotional intelligence and the ability to read and motivate others; builds high-performing, engaged, and supportive teams; utilizes techniques to assess and support individuals' strength/opportunity areas; and employs mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Strategic Planning: Drives results through understanding the purpose of strategic planning and its importance to the business; learns and uses analytic tools to identify strategic priorities to achieve sales quota on a consistent basis. Sets and communicates vision for regional sales team. Uses financial analysis and growth planning to accomplish assigned financial and developmental plans and forecasting. Complies with administrative adoption and is willing and capable to support required steps to document activities and customer progress in timely and accurate fashion in CRM system.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $248,000 - $341,000annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, commission, and/or long-term incentive.
