Position Summary

The High School Intern will gain hands-on experience in a professional banking environment by shadowing and assisting Retail Banking Center staff. This internship is designed to introduce students to the financial services industry, helping them build foundational workplace skills, customer service exposure, and an understanding of day-to-day banking operations. This is a learning-focused role with responsibilities aligned to observation, support tasks, and guided activities under supervision. This role is based in our Southbridge, MA banking center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Learning & Observation
    • Shadow bankers, customer service representatives, and branch leadership to understand daily banking center operations.
    • Observe customer interactions, account opening processes, and transaction procedures to learn proper banking protocols.
    • Participate in scheduled learning sessions about retail banking, financial literacy, compliance, and customer service best practices.
  • Operational Support
    • Assist bankers with non-transactional tasks such as organizing documents, preparing marketing materials, and maintaining lobby readiness.
    • Support administrative duties including filing, scanning, data entry, and organizing branch supplies (as permitted by policy).
  • Customer Experience
    • Greet customers and provide friendly, helpful direction to the appropriate banker or service representative.
    • Assist with scheduling appointments and managing customer flow.
  • Professional Development
    • Participate in coaching sessions to develop communication, teamwork, time management, and customer service skills.
    • Learn about career paths within retail banking and the broader financial services industry.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in high school (Junior or Senior year preferred).
  • Interest in business, finance, customer service, or professional office careers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and eager to learn.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow all bank policies and procedures.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
