Job Description:

AMA provides technical support to the U.S. Army's Technology Development Directorate (TDD) at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA. This work supports the development, application, and advancement of high-fidelity modeling and simulation tools used in Army rotorcraft acquisition programs, including Future Vertical Lift (FVL).

Advanced tools such as CREATE-AV Helios and RCAS are applied to analyze rotorcraft aerodynamics, structural dynamics, and acoustics. These efforts directly contribute to improving aircraft performance, reducing technical risk, and enhancing the safety of current and future Army rotorcraft systems.

About the Project:

The SME Support to Rotorcraft Software Development and Maintenance role will provide advising, implementation, and support in multiple areas including: 1) software development and maintenance for the RASCAL Development Facility (DF); 2) maintain and modify the Ames Gen Hel model of the UH-60 Black Hawk in support of DF and System Integration Laboratory (SIL) simulations; 3) support development and maintenance of AvMC's flight controls software tools (e.g. CONDUIT, RIPTIDE).

Work location will be on-site or near-site at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA.

Pay for this position is $180,000 - 200,000 per year commensurate with experience and includes a competitive benefits package.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge and experience to conduct and guide further development of the Rotorcraft Aircrews Systems Concepts Airborne Laboratory (RASCAL) Development Facility (DF)
  • Support development of the Ames Gen Hel model of the UH-60 Black Hawk in support of DF and System Integration Laboratory (SIL) simulations
  • Perform validation of flight control software tools which include CONDUIT and RIPTIDE.
  • Support and contribute to software development activities related to flight control software tools (CONDUIT, RIPTIDE).
  • Provide assessment and feedback to software change proposals.
  • Collaborate with government and contractor teams to integrate modeling and simulation tools into Army programs
  • Document methods, results, and present findings to support technical and program reviews

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of modeling and simulation of rotorcraft flight control systems
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and maintenance of software tools related to rotorcraft analysis, controls, and/or simulation
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance and oversight
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead technical discussions and meetings
  • M.S in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent with 20+ years experience related to rotorcraft systems design or simulation

Desired Skills:

  • Direct experience with RASCAL, Ames Gen Hel model, CONDUIT, and/or RIPTIDE highly preferred
