About the Role:

The Counseling Center Psychologist is part of the Tulane University Campus Health team of committed professionals dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and wellbeing as a core institutional value through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach. This Psychologist position resides within the Counseling Center, and reports to a therapist team leader. The individual in this position is responsible for delivering clinical services and participating in community engagement activities.

As a member of the Counseling Center, the Psychologist provides student mental health services, including urgent walk-in assessments, consultations, individual psychotherapy, group therapy and workshops. The Psychologist also participates in designing and delivering outreach programs to students, as well as developing materials and presentations on topics pertinent to various University constituencies. The Psychologist will be responsible for a specified area of coordination or advocacy or serve as a liaison to departments or groups on campus as assigned by the Director. Activities such as data collection and analysis, as well as program coordination, may also be pursued at times. The Psychologist participates regularly in Campus Health, therapist team, and Counseling Center staff meetings and trainings.

Tulane University Campus Health is fully accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and serves a student body of over 13,500.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program and completion of an APA approved internship by the date of hire.
  • Licensed to practice psychology in the State of Louisiana. Must be licensed in Louisiana within 18 months of hire date.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, able to dialogue effectively with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff

Preferred:

  • Previous experience delivering group interventions (interpersonal, support, skill-building).
  • Experience working with university students in a university counseling setting.
  • Training and experience working with substance abuse issues and suicide.
  • Experience working with BIPOC students, students from all economic classes, first generation students, LGBTQ students, and international students.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle spontaneous work demands while undertaking projects that require advanced planning.

Additional Information

This position is considered ESSENTIAL - Level 1. This means that during emergent situations at the university, you may be called upon to support the Student Affairs response. This includes, but is not limited to, the university's response to hurricanes before, during, and after an event, as well as other weather-related incidents.

Your individual supervisor will discuss the nature of your specific responsibilities as appropriate. You should not assume that being in this category requires you to remain in New Orleans for every critical incident; however, it does mean that you may have responsibilities during such incidents.
