English Assistant Professor (2 Positions)

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.

We have an exciting opportunity for two (2) English Instructor positions located at our campus. These positions are full-time tenure-track academic positions. The ideal candidates need to be student oriented in their approach and dedicated to student success. They should be skilled in engaging students in learning by affirming and developing their prior cultural knowledge and will create welcoming learning environments that are equity-based. Full-time faculty are typically assigned 15 lecture hours (or the equivalent in laboratory, studio or related activities) of student contact time per week. Office hours are also required. Faculty are expected to participate in college service, committees, and/or a variety of task forces. Teaching assignments may include a mixture of day, evening, multi-campus, off-campus, and online classes.

Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8). 1. Have a master's in english, literature, comparative literature, or composition; OR bachelor's ienglish, literature, comparative literature, or composition and master's in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism; OR the equivalent. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by August 20, 2026.
2. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

  • Example: If a master's in Psychology is required but the transcript lists Counseling Psychology and that title is not listed in the Minimum Qualifications, an Equivalency Determination Request Form must be submitted.

• Transcripts must be from an accredited U.S. institutions or approved foreign evaluation agency.
• Foreign transcript evaluations must be issued by an AICE (Association of International Credential Evaluation, Inc.) or NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) member agency. See the Foreign Transcript Evaluation webpage for details.
• Transcripts must clearly identify the degree(s) being used to meet the Minimum Qualifications.
• If more than one degree is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications (e.g., a bachelor's and a master's), transcripts for each degree must be included.

• If the degree is in progress, the application must state, the month and year the degree is expected to be attained.
