TheMicrosoft Security Purview Teamis responsible for a broad suite of data governance, data security, compliance, privacy, and risk management solutions across Microsoft 365, Azure, and multi-cloud environments. We are looking to hireBack-End Senior & Principal Software Engineer(s) for the Purview team, you will help ensure the software, tools, and code meets the highest standards for scale and security. This opportunity will allow you to learn about customer scaling requirements and the application of best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations, while ensuring the correct processes are followed to achieve a high degree of security, privacy, safety, and accessibility and of course security. You will look for opportunities to raise the security bar as you apply Microsoft's security policies and best practices.

ThisHybrid Positionis located at ourMicrosoft office inRedmond, Washington. Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidateswill need to relocate or residewithin 50 miles of the field location.



Responsibilities
  • Owns product/solution architectureby testing design hypotheses and creating detailed specifications.
  • Explores and evaluates design options, outlining strengths and weaknesses for complex scenarios.
  • Collaborates with architectsto build and modify complex solutions, providing feedback proactively.
  • Identifies and manages dependencies, ensuring security, compliance, performance, and reliability across systems.
  • Coordinates with other teamsto resolve conflicts and achieve common goals where dependencies overlap.
  • Produces high-quality, secure, and performant code, applying best practices and improving maintainability.
  • Escalates blockers and risks, communicating impacts on timelines and proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Conducts timely code reviews, ensuring standards, test coverage, diagnosability, and adherence to best practices.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), monitoring systems, responding to incidents, and driving global resolutions.
  • Leads efforts to reduce incident volume, analyzing patterns and implementing broad preventive measures.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience designing, developing, or maintainingsecure software systems, with applied knowledge ofauthentication,dataprotection,accesscontrol, andsecurecodingpractices.
  • 6+ years of experience working withdistributeddataprocessingframeworkssuch asApacheSpark,Databricks, orsimilartechnologiesto transform and managelarge-scaledatasets.
  • 6+ years of experiencedesigninganddevelopingscalablesolutionsusingmicroservicesarchitectureand related technologies (e.g., REST, gRPC, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • 3+ years of experiencebuildingconsensusandresolvingconflictsacrosscross-functionalteamstodrive alignmentandeffectivedecision-making.


Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
