Job Description
A Virtualization Lead (or Lead Virtualization SME) is responsible for the high-level design, implementation, and management of an organization's virtualized infrastructure. This role provides technical leadership to a team of engineers to ensure the stability, scalability, and security of virtual environments, including servers, desktops (VDI), and storage.

Core Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as the lead over a team of engineers, directing mission requirements and overseeing technical implementations.
  • Architectural Design: Design and implement hypervisor solutions (e.g., VMware ESXi, Hyper-V) and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) like VMware Horizon or Citrix.
  • Performance & Capacity Management: Monitor CPU, memory, and storage utilization to ensure optimal performance and project future capacity needs.
  • Disaster Recovery (DR): Design, deploy, and test High Availability (HA) and Business Continuity Plan (BCP) virtual environments to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Escalation Management: Act as a senior-level escalation point for complex technical issues related to virtual machine performance, connectivity, and security.
  • Automation: Drive efficiency by creating scripts and automation workflows using tools like PowerShell, Python, Terraform, or Ansible.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of VMware technologies (vCenter, vSAN, vSphere), Microsoft Hyper-V, or Nutanix.
  • Infrastructure Knowledge: Proficiency in networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and storage solutions like SAN and NAS.
  • Leadership Experience: Typically requires 3+ years of technical leadership experience and 8+ years in systems administration or engineering.
  • Education:
    • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is standard.
  • Certifications: Valuable credentials include:
    • VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
    • Citrix Certified Professional - Virtualization (CCP-V).
    • Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP).
    • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate.
