Department Information

Housing and Residence Life is passionate about the Georgia Tech residential student experience. With 97% of all first-year students choosing to live on campus, we create spaces and opportunities for Yellow Jackets to grow and connect from their first day of college through their graduate studies. We are proud to support our students personal development and academic endeavors while providing a safe and comfortable living environment.

Our department is a large and complex organization supporting over 8,700 on-campus residents among 49 traditional halls, suites, and apartments, some of which were constructed for the 1996 Summer Olympics. Our team of 200+ professional staff and 300+ student staff from six departments supports residents directly and indirectly with their unique talents. We are housed within the Student Engagement and Well-Being division, which includes many student service offices.

Job Summary

The Pest Control Technician is responsible for inspecting, treating, and preventing pest infestations across campus housing facilities. This role ensures a safe and healthy living environment for residents by following integrated pest management (IPM) practices, maintaining regulatory compliance, and delivering responsive, customer-focused service. This position will interact on a consistent basis with unit management and staff, vendors and office visitors.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Conduct routine inspections of residence halls, apartments, and campus buildings to identify pest activity and assess treatment needs.

Job Duty 2 -
Apply pest control treatments and preventive measures in accordance with product labels, IPM strategies, and safety regulations.

Job Duty 3 -
Monitor and maintain exterior rodent bait stations and other pest monitoring devices, documenting findings and treatment actions.

Job Duty 4 -
Implement and recommend exclusion methods to prevent rodent and insect entry into buildings.

Job Duty 5 -
Respond promptly to urgent pest concerns and participate in the on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Job Duty 6 -
Maintain all required pest control licensure and adhere to federal, state, and campus safety and compliance standards.

Job Duty 7 -
Accurately record inspections, treatments, and pesticide usage, ensuring proper documentation and chemical storage practices.

Job Duty 8 -
Communicate effectively with housing staff, facilities teams, and residents regarding pest issues, treatment plans, and preventive recommendations.
Job Duty 9 -
Assist with oversight and coordination of contracted rodent control services as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience
Minimum of two to five years of job-related experience
Maximum 10 years of experience
Other Required Qualifications
The candidate will need to complete classroom training, hands-on training, and a state pest control license.
Travel up to 10%
Proposed Salary

Pay Range: $17.98-$24.45/hr.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) principles and common pests in residential or institutional environments.

Knowledge of safe pesticide application practices and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
ABILITIES
Ability to communicate professionally with residents, staff, and supervisors regarding pest issues and treatments.

Ability to work independently, manage multiple service requests, and respond to urgent or on-call situations.

Ability to maintain required pest control licensure and follow safety protocols.

Ability to perform physically demanding work, including climbing ladders and working in confined or outdoor spaces.

SKILLS
Skill in inspecting facilities to identify pest activity, entry points, and contributing conditions.

Skill in applying pest control treatments and maintaining accurate service and chemical usage records.
