We're seeking a Controls Engineer to support the production equipment building and installation processes by conceptualizing, designing, programming, and troubleshooting electrical control systems!

You'll Support Meaningful Work By:


Supporting the production equipment building and installation processes by conceptualizing, designing, programming, and troubleshooting electrical control systems. Typical work includes managing multiple projects involving large automated systems and multi-processor equipment.


Serving as a technical training resource for plant and corporate electricians.


Being a leader to the other engineers, assist the manager with department administration, and help improve department efficiencies.


  • Conceptualizing the electrical control system solution that is necessary for a given project, develop a design, and program and debug the system using knowledge of codes and standards including but not limited to NEC, NFPA, OSHA, MIOSHA, ANSI, etc.
  • Troubleshooting new and existing electrical control systems.
  • Managing multiple large projects. Assisting in the scheduling and coordination of any internal or external resources needed to complete a project, estimate the project cost, document the project, and follow up with the customer to ensure satisfaction. Seeking out cost reduction opportunities for existing processes.
  • Clarifying design issues and direct Machine Build Electricians, Plant Maintenance Electricians, Machine Builders, and Tooling Personnel.
  • Making electrical control recommendations to other disciplines, including Safety, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities and Production.
  • Researching and evaluating new technology for electrical controls systems, including machine controls, robotics, and industrial applications of personal computers. Also serving as a technical resource for corporate wide electrical personnel.
  • Promoting and authoring the Corporate Electrical Controls Specification for automated equipment standards. Lead technical training seminars, classes, and programs for electrical personnel.
  • Providing training, guidance, and procedural information for other engineers in the department. Assisting the department manager in tracking and studying department measures (project completions, cost, etc...). And helping develop processes and guidelines to improve department efficiencies.

As a member of the Controls team, you will work closely with Operations and Manufacturing Engineers


Who You Are:


Required Skills and Competencies


  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience
  • 3 years Electrical Controls experience

Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • 5 + years of experience in controls and automation engineering
  • Strong programming skills beyond Ladder Logic and ability to program multi-processor equipment.
  • Know how to integrate control components into multiple systems.
  • Able to handle multiple projects and meet project commitments and customer expectations.
  • Learn the Steelcase internal control standards and have the ability to contribute new information in order to improve the standards.
  • Offer electrical design solutions to complex machine designs, including but not limited to servo applications.
  • Proficiently use AutoCad and generate hardware schematics.
  • Competent in all, and expert in at least two of the following: CNC, Sensors (discrete & analog), Servo Controls, Industrial Networks, Data Collection, Robotics, Instrumentation, Welding (mig & resistance), Vision Systems.
