What to Expect

Tesla Energy's Systems Engineering team is hiring a Thermals Test Systems Engineer to design and build thermal test rigsthat replicate the cooling and heating architectures used in Megapack, Powerwall, and Supercharging products. You'llown mechanical design for coolant-loop test stands, heat-exchange hardware, and structural assemblies, and work closely with Electrical, Controls, and Thermals teams to transform requirements into functional test equipment. Strong fundamentals in fluid dynamics, thermal systems, and 3D CAD (CATIA preferred) arerequired.

What You'll Do
  • Design and build thermal test rigs that include coolant loops, heat exchangers, pumps, manifolds, flow-control, thermal loading, and other thermal-mechanical components
  • Own CAD for all mechanical components and structural assemblies (80/20, sheet metal, machined parts)
  • Integrate sensors, valves, actuators, instrumentation, and EE/Controls hardware
  • Design andvalidatefluid circuits through prototyping, flow/pressure testing, and thermal loading
  • Workwith Controls and Thermals teams to translate system requirements into functional hardware
  • Manage fabrication, vendors, BOMs, data acquisition, and technician handoff
  • Ensure rigs are safe, maintainable, and updated as architecture evolves

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years designing thermal/fluid systems (R&D, test equipment, HVAC, automotive, etc.)
  • Strong 3D CAD skills (CATIA preferred)
  • Strong fundamentals in heat transfer and fluid dynamics
  • Hands-on prototyping: plumbing, fittings, manifolds, instrumentation, 80/20 builds
  • Ability to execute builds, work with vendors, and manage BOMs in afast-paced R&D environment
  • Experience with high-power, electro-mechanical, and/or control systems preferred
  • Familiarity with chillers, cold plates, expansion tanks, bleed/fill systems, and instrumentation preferred
  • Familiarity with thermal modeling and CFD simulation preferred
