Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within the UCSD School of Medicine with comprehensive clinical programs, extensive basic science and clinical research, and diverse educational opportunities for students, residents and fellows. The UCSD Mother Child & Adolescent Program (MCAP) provides comprehensive and integrated HIV care and prevention, social services and clinical research to women, infants, children and youth ages 13-24 impacted by HIV and individuals at risk of HIV, Hepatitis C and STI infections. A multidisciplinary team of specialists provides outreach, testing and linkage to care, medical care, treatment, health education, nutrition education, mental health counseling, case management and peer support.

The Community Education Specialist 2 will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support routine HIV, Hepatitis C and Syphilis testing within the UCSD health system, working along side program leadership and department champions and data specialists. Upon identified cases, will work amongst team to provide care follow up and linkage to care.

The incumbent uses professional community educational program concepts to deliver and enhance standardized educational programs and volunteer educational programs as needed. Analyzes program content and delivery needs to determine effectiveness of current programs and identify underrepresented constituencies in the community. Participates in recruitment and outreach activities for assigned program. Performs other duties as assigned.

• Four years of related experience, education/training, OR an Associate degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.

• Continuing education in related field.

• Working knowledge of departmental and organization policies and procedures; knowledge of educational program content and objectives.

• Working knowledge of delivering community educational programs.

• Working knowledge of current community education programs and trends.

• Working skills to produce and deliver programs.

• Working knowledge of conducting needs assessment.

• Good analytical skills to understand how business needs can be addressed through the development and delivery of training programs.

• Good reading, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills.

• Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
