The Enterprise Application Engineer - Business Applications will support, maintain, and optimize critical enterprise and productivity applications across the firm. This hybrid role combines deep technical engineering expertise with strong business analysis and consulting skills, serving as a key bridge between attorneys, business stakeholders, vendors, and internal technology teams.

This role is responsible for the stability, performance, integration, and lifecycle management of diverse legal and business systems, while also translating business needs into technical solutions that enhance firm productivity, compliance, and user experience. A remote work arrangement is available for this position.

Application Engineering & Technical Support

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for business specific applications including Marketing CRM systems, HR Systems, Recruiting, Legal research tools. (Lexis InterAction, IntroHive, Litera Concep, Cirrom, Dayforce, viRecruit, Sydney+)
  • Ensure stable and efficient application performance across laptops, desktops, and Citrix virtual environments.
  • Lead advanced troubleshooting efforts involving application crashes, integration failures, authentication issues, and security concerns by analyzing logs, registry data, event viewer entries, telemetry, and related diagnostics.
  • Document configurations, root causes, resolutions, standards, and best practices.

Business Analysis & Advisory Services

  • Act as a trusted advisor to attorneys, staff, and business teams by providing consultative guidance on application capabilities, best practices, and process optimization.
  • Partner with business stakeholders and other IT professionals to gather requirements, map workflows, and translate business needs into clear functional and technical specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with non-technical users through clear documentation, concise updates, and easy-to-understand explanations.

Application Life Cycle, Change & Release Management

  • Own and manage the full application lifecycle for assigned systems, including patches, upgrades, regression testing, UAT coordination, and post-deployment support.
  • Plan and execute change control and release management activities, including training, communication planning, and adoption support.
  • Contribute to project initiatives by managing priorities, estimating effort, and delivering assigned tasks on time and within scope.

Platform, Vendor & Collaboration

  • Coordinate with internal IT groups, including development, infrastructure, and security teams, to ensure cohesive application support and integration across legal technology platforms.
  • Manage vendor relationships with legal technology providers, escalate advanced issues, and coordinate resolution efforts to minimize disruption to legal workflows and matter work.
  • Evaluate and pilot new legal-specific features, tools, and integrations to assess their value, compatibility, and potential impact on firm workflows.
  • Work closely with other engineers to package, deploy, and update related applications using SCCM and Intune.

Security, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Uphold firm security and compliance standards through proper access controls, data handling procedures, legal industry risk protocols, and adherence to ISO27001 requirements.
  • Maintain professional and technical expertise through ongoing training, industry events, and continuous learning.
  • Participate actively in team and project meetings to support organizational goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • 7+ years administering and supporting enterprise business and productivity applications, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred. Equivalent experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), including templates, add-ins, macros, and customizations; strong understanding of application integrations and enterprise environments. Demonstrated results using various technical tools including Database SQL queries, PowerShell scripting and data reporting using Power BI.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose complex technical and business issues.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences at all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects or issues simultaneously, including those requiring coordination across teams and vendors.
  • Solid understanding of firm practices, workflows, and business direction.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:

  • Albany, NY: $107,000 to $158,950
  • Buffalo, NY: $107,000 to $158,950
  • Manchester, NH: $107,000 to $158,950
  • Providence, RI: $107,000 to $158,950
  • Rochester, NY: $107,000 to $158,950
  • Boston, MA: $118,000 to $174,900
  • Chicago, IL: $118,000 to $174,900
  • Los Angeles, CA: $118,000 to $174,900
  • Washington, DC: $118,000 to $174,900
  • Long Island, NY: $129,500 to $192,500
  • New York, NY: $129,500 to $192,500
  • San Francisco, CA: $129,500 to $192,500

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
