SSAI seeks a Software Engineer IV to support an Earth Science contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The candidate will provide software engineering support to the SNOW mission.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Define software requirements for federal data archives (e.g., NSIDC) to support metadata management and search functionality for scientific data.
  • Develop and maintain tools or systems for data ingestion, temporary hosting, and management for field campaign and validation teams.
  • Support science teams in preparing, finalizing, and archiving datasets in compliance with federal archival standards.
  • Ensure data integrity, accessibility, and usability for scientists and end-users.
  • Collaborate with scientists, data managers, and federal archive personnel to translate scientific needs into functional software solutions

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in computer science, systems engineering, physics, atmospheric science or related field and 10 years' experience in software engineering or development. Or, the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in programming (Python, Java, or C++) and software development for scientific data systems.
  • Experience with databases and metadata standards (ISO 19115, CF Conventions) for data management and archival.
  • Knowledge of data validation, quality control, and long-term preservation best practices.
  • Ability to develop or interface with web services/APIs for data access and search.
  • Strong requirements analysis, problem-solving, and collaboration skills with scientists and archive personnel.
  • Clear documentation and ability to train users on data submission and archival processes.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
