Compliance Manager, EHS & Food Safety

The Compliance Manager, EHS & Food Safety is responsible for the ongoing stewardship, continuous improvement, and scalability of RT's established Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and HACCP-based Food Safety programs across all locations nationwide. This role ensures programs remain compliant, effective, and aligned with evolving regulatory, customer, and business requirements while supporting safe, consistent operations in a fleet- and depot-centric environment.

Location and Travel

This position requires extensive travel, with a minimum of 50% of time dedicated to audits, training sessions, and visits to customers and suppliers. The ideal candidate will be located within the continental US and within reasonable distance to a major airport.

Primary Job Accountabilities:

1. EHS & Food Safety Program Stewardship

  • Serve as the program owner and subject matter expert for RT's Environmental-related Safety Programs, including site-based protocols and food safety programs.
  • Maintain, evolve, and scale existing programs to meet changing regulatory, customer, and operational needs without introducing unnecessary complexity.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and controls remain current, practical, and embedded in daily operations.
  • Support Depot Leaders' ownership of EHS and food safety documentation, including revision control, record retention, and audit readiness.
  • Partner with Operations, Fleet, and Facilities to ensure environmental, workplace safety, and food safety considerations are integrated into depot design, equipment deployment, and process changes.

2. Audit, Inspection & Compliance Oversight

  • Review third-party audits, customer assessments, and regulatory inspections, ensuring corrective actions are effective, sustainable, and prevent recurrence.
  • Support internal EHS and food safety audits across RT locations, clearly communicating findings, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide on-site support during unannounced inspections and audits, coaching local leadership through regulatory interactions.
  • Track, analyze, and report compliance trends by depot, region, and enterprise to inform leadership decisions and proactive risk mitigation.

3. Environmental & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable FDA, OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state/local regulations, in partnership with Regulatory and EHS Business Partner resources.
  • Maintain timely regulated registrations and required regulatory filings for RT facilities.
  • Support environmental compliance initiatives including waste handling, spill prevention, chemical management, and safe material storage.

4. Training, Enablement & Capability Building

  • Sustain, refresh, and enhance existing EHS and food safety training programs, including leader onboarding and ongoing field training.
  • Partner with Operations Excellence to develop and update training materials to reflect regulatory updates, audit findings, and operational best practices.
  • Enable leaders at all levels to understand and execute their accountability for environmental safety, workplace safety, and food safety compliance.

5. Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Build strong working relationships with Operations, Fleet, Facilities, Regulatory, third-party auditors, pest control providers, and chemical suppliers.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to field leadership, balancing compliance requirements with operational realities.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with leaders and stakeholders regarding risks, expectations, and improvement plans.

6. Incident, Complaint & Risk Management

  • Support investigation of customer complaints, safety incidents, and compliance deviations, identifying root causes and systemic improvements.
  • Oversee Mock Recall and traceability exercises, ensuring effective execution, documentation, and follow-up actions.
  • Monitor emerging risks and regulatory changes to proactively adapt existing programs.

7. Equipment, Fleet & Operational Safety Support

  • Partner with Fleet, Distribution, and Depot teams to ensure equipment use, transfers, and maintenance meet environmental, safety, and food safety requirements.
  • Monitor equipment calibration programs and performance trends to identify and mitigate risk.
  • Support safe field testing and deployment of new equipment and processes when EHS or food safety risks are present.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Food Science, Industrial Safety, or a related field; equivalent experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing EHS and/or food safety programs in multi-site operational environments.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining and scaling mature EHS and/or HACCP-based food safety programs within a growing organization.
  • Working knowledge of HACCP principles, Codex Alimentarius, and risk-based food safety systems.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections, and training across distributed operations.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks applicable to fleet- and facility-based businesses (FDA, OSHA, EPA).
  • Familiarity with SQF or other GFSI-recognized standards preferred.

Certifications (Preferred or Ability to Obtain)

  • HACCP Manager/Auditor (ASQ or equivalent)
  • EHS-related certifications (e.g., CSP, ASP) a plus
