WORK ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

The Waukesha County Board Chair is seeking applicants to fill the County Clerk seat which will be vacated this spring. County Clerks serve 4-year terms and are elected in the general election of even years. The selected candidate will fill the remainder of the 4-year term and can run for election in 2028 if they choose.

The County Clerk salary for the remainder of the term is as follows:

2026: $95,098

2027: $97,947

2028: $100,880

CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

The County Clerk's role is centered around three primary functions: Elections, Licensing, and Legislative Support.

Elections:

  • Prepare and distribute ballots and election supplies
  • Program election equipment and collaborate with municipalities on voter registration and training
  • Receive, tabulate unofficial election results, and manage the board of canvass operations

Licensing:

  • Issue marriage licenses and coordinate with municipalities on dog licensing
  • Serve as a U.S. Passport acceptance agency

Legislative Support:

  • Act as Clerk and records custodian for the County Board
  • Maintain and manage other county-related records as mandated by statutes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must be a United States citizen and Waukesha County resident, be 18 years of age and must otherwise qualify as an eligible elector under the Wisconsin Statutes.

Well-qualified candidates will have experience running elections, a proven record of working collaboratively, and strong leadership and management skills.
