The Department of Biology at the University of Virginia's College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the lab of Dr. Katja Kasimatis. The Kasimatis lab studies the evolutionary genomic of sexual conflict using the Caenorhabditis nematode model system. This project specifically examines differences in recombination rate between the sexes in natural and experimental populations, and it evaluates the role of recombination suppression in early sex chromosome formation. Our work makes use of the experimental tools and resources available for the model nematodes C. elegans and C. remanei. Associated projects entail CRISPR/Cas9 genetic engineering, experimental evolution, genomics, and field sampling. The selected candidate will also mentor undergraduate students. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will operate under the supervision of Katja Kasimatis, Ph.D. Find out more about the lab at www.conflictgenomics.com. The earliest start date is July 1st, 2026.
