POSITION GOAL: The Mechanic II performs advanced diagnostic, repair, and maintenance tasks on complex mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems, ensuring optimal vehicle performance and safety. This role requires the ability to execute intricate maintenance and repairs with minimal supervision, delivering high-quality results. The Mechanic II also leads by example, serving as a technical authority and mentor, guiding junior mechanics, promoting skill development, and contributing to a collaborative and efficient team environment within the shop.

1) Engine Diagnosis and Repair including:

  • Diagnose and repair a variety of engine types, including diesel, electric, and hydrogen fuel cell engines, using diagnostic tools to maintain performance, reliability, and long-term durability.

2) Technical Leadership and Mentorship including:

  • Serve as a technical resource for junior mechanics, providing expert guidance to Mechanic Helpers and Mechanic IV team members.
  • Mentor team members in diagnostics and repair techniques, fostering skill development and ensuring high-quality standards are met consistently across the team.

3) Troubleshoot and Repair Engine and Body Accessories including:

  • Heating and Air Conditioning Systems: Ensure efficient operation, air flow, and temperature control to maintain passenger comfort and system reliability.
  • Electrical Components: Use expert diagnostic skills to identify and repair issues in alternators, generators, and voltage regulators, ensuring consistent system performance.
  • Suspension, Braking, and Steering Systems: Troubleshoot and repair critical safety components, ensuring smooth vehicle operation and stability.

4) Electrical and Pneumatic System Maintenance including:

  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including gauges, lights, and electric motors, ensuring systems are functioning optimally and safely.
  • Maintain and service pneumatic valves, control cables, and linkages to ensure smooth operation and optimal performance of pneumatic systems.

5) Routine and General Maintenance including:

  • Perform general lubrication functions, such as engine oil/filter changes, air filter replacements, and chassis lubrication, to ensure long-term reliability and performance.
  • Conduct transmission fluid and filter changes, differential fluid checks, and tire changes, ensuring vehicles are fully serviced for optimal performance.
  • Remove and install components such as seats, brake drums, brake shoes, and suspension parts, ensuring safety and system integrity.

6) Advanced System Repairs and Replacements including:

  • Repair or replace critical components, including radiators, water pumps, hoses, wheel bearings, seals, door assemblies, seating components, and control systems, maintaining factory specifications for maximum performance and safety.

7) Glass Installations and Body Repairs including:

  • Assist in glass installations and perform basic body repairs, ensuring structural integrity and adherence to safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • While formal education in automotive repair, mechanics, or a related field is a strong asset, it is not a requirement for this role. We value hands-on experience, a willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic just as highly.
  • 3-5 years of experience in automotive, diesel, or related fields. Familiarity with engine, driveline, and electrical systems is preferred.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL): A CDL with Air and Passenger endorsements is beneficial for operating and testing vehicles as part of maintenance and repair activities is preferred but not required.
  • High-Voltage (HV) Safety Certification: Essential for safely working on hybrid or electric vehicles, particularly those with high-voltage systems is highly desired but not required.
  • High-Voltage Maintenance/Repair Training: Training in HV systems equips candidates to perform diagnostics and repairs on cutting-edge vehicle technologies is highly desired but not required.
