Continuation past the termlengthdiscussed willbebasedonuniversityneed,performance,and/oravailabilityoffunding.POSITION SPECIFICS The Cross-disciplinary Laboratory for Integrated Plasma Science and Engineering (CLIPSE) in the School of Engineering Design and Innovation (SEDI) at Penn State seeks a post-doctoral scholar in the field of plasma medicine.The successful applicant will have a background in experimental cold plasma science and engineering with a focus on biomedical applications.This NIH-funded program is for the design and development of a catheter-delivered cold plasma source for treatment of endocarditis on heart valves.All applicants must have an earned Ph. D or equivalent doctorate in biomedical engineering or a related field and be able to provide evidence that all requirements have been met for completion of the Ph.D. prior to the effective date of hire. The post-doctoral scholar will be mentored by a diverse array of faculty members from engineering design, biomedical engineering, surgery, and clinicians, and provided opportunities for professional development in order to place them in a strong position for future academic or industry positions. Required experience or capabilities in: material biocompatibility in the cardiovascular system; nanosecond pulsed high-voltage engineering; electrical safety standards (IEC and/or AAMI); cell culture and assay techniques (mammalian and bacterial); prototype/test/iterate; high-speed imaging; mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students; demonstrated cross-disciplinary collaboration. Preferred experience or capabilities in: catheter design; small animal testing; advanced fabrication and characterization techniques (e.g. evaporation, sputtering, atomic layer deposition, electron microscopy); entrepreneurship. Salary is dependent on experience, but follows the NIH post-doctoral fellow guidance (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-25-105.html).
