Responsibilities
MV Transportation is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to lead financial operations for our medium-scale, multi-mode environment. This pivotal role oversees the intersection of finance, payroll, and human resources administration duties. The ideal candidate will ensure fiscal integrity, maintain regulatory compliance, and provide actionable financial insights to the local management team and Regional Controller.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Month-End/Year-End Oversight: Lead closing functions, including accrual tracking, journal entries, variance analysis, and invocing.
Financial Integrity: Review and validate preliminary and final financial forecasting, budgeting statements, including payroll alongside the General Manager to ensure 100% accuracy. Accounts Payable & Reconciliation: Oversee invoice submissions, monitor accruals, and perform frequent reconciliations of petty cash and purchase orders. Operational Support: Provide high-level financial guidance to the General Manager; attend operational and financial meetings to align financial updates with division goals.
Payroll & Benefits Administration
Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor payroll staff, ensuring the accurate and timely distribution of weekly payroll for a large workforce. Compliance & Compliance: Ensure all payroll and HR activities adhere to Corporate, Federal, State, and local Union Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs). HR Liaison: Partner with Human Resources to manage employee lifecycles (hires, GFI status changes, terminations) and track comprehensive benefits (Medical, Dental, PTO, and Sick Leave). Strategic Policy Development: Design and implement robust accounting and payroll policies to enhance process efficiency and data accuracy.
Project Leadership & Auditing
Audit Management: Lead critical compliance projects, including CHP Payroll audits, Sick Pay/Health Ordinance reviews, and year-end W-2 distributions. - Manage: Manage Utility Staff and Electronic Technicians.
Benefit Open Enrollment: Coordinate with corporate offices to facilitate annual benefits enrollment and resolve complex employee or vendor inquiries.
Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience; 2+ years in a supervisory role. Industry Knowledge: Experience in transportation, logistics, or a multi-mode service environment is highly preferred. Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with integrated ERP/Payroll systems. Compliance: Deep understanding of GAAP, payroll tax laws, and labor union contracts. Communication: Proven ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for non-financial managers.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $68,640.00 Annually Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401k. Paid Time Off: Competitive Sick and Vacation leave packages.

Education & Core Experience
Academic Background: B.A. or B.S. in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience. Candidates with a proven track record in a high-volume, will be prioritized. Industry Knowledge: Prior experience in the Transportation or Logistics industry is a significant advantage, particularly regarding familiarity with regulatory audits (e.g., CHP).
Leadership & Strategic Ability
Team Management: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and hold Utility and Money Counter teams accountable while maintaining a positive, collaborative work culture. Problem Solving: A proactive approach to identifying financial discrepancies and implementing long-term procedural solutions rather than temporary fixes.
Technical & Operational Excellence
Advanced Systems Proficiency: Expert-level skills in Microsoft Excel Word, Powerpoint, TripShot, Spare, Etc.. Comfort navigating integrated payroll platform. Organizational Rigor: Exceptional ability to manage competing priorities-balancing month-end close, payroll deadlines, Client closing proceedures, and unplanned client reporting requests without sacrificing accuracy.
Communication & Compliance
Interpersonal Influence: Ability to communicate complex financial data clearly to General Managers, corporate executives, and vendors. Regulatory Compliance: A high degree of integrity and attention to detail regarding Federal/State labor laws and Union Collective Bargaining Agreements.
