JOB DESCRIPTION:

Analyze transportation costs and service levels for both domestic and international transportation activities of the organization and make recommendations to management to improve the effectiveness of the transportation programs. This position reports to the Traffic Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and maintains statistical data, used for daily meetings, and maintains the performance records for monthly, quarterly and annual reports. Analyzes data, statistics, and records from multiple systems, used in the course of performing this job, and includes data regarding transportation performance (lead time, service, delivery, cost per cube, etc.), as well as comparisons to industry standards.

  • Analyze freight carriers and lanes based on but not limited to the following: capacity and utilization, insurance, price, safety, and service.

  • Audits and approves payment of freight invoices per negotiated contracts which are submitted by contract carriers. Administrates the freight payment programs, including maintenance of the company's 'self-invoicing' freight payment systems along with various routing and rating tables. Ensures that monthly changes in fuel surcharges are updated in AS400.

  • Supports transportation RFP and proposal process.

  • Assists in the negotiation of freight rates.

  • Implements freight cost-saving projects, e.g., freight mode optimization, shipments consolidation, freight audit & payment.

  • Communicates market changes and carrier opportunities to senior management.

  • Maintains focus on Key Performance Indicators (KPI's).

  • Maintains carrier contract files and ensures that all files are kept current.

  • Works with IT and Operations to improve internal information systems and enhance the utilization of online web tools of transportation providers.

  • Maintains reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and the organization.

  • Executes each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform job successfully.

  • Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.

  • Performs effectively as a team member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give feedback, and treats everyone with respect.

  • Takes ownership of own work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions, encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.

  • Follows all department quality standards/criteria. Raises concerns and issues to immediate manager.

  • Understands department's key performance indicators and contributes to achieve these goals both individually and as a team.

  • Other duties as assigned or required.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must be able to work overtime as needed, remain flexible and open to possible schedule changes in order to meet business needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a technical school or related courses in Traffic, Transportation, Logistics Management, or equivalent work experience.

  • Two- three years related business experience including freight rates, transportation regulations and business practices, claims management and distribution operations.

  • Two- three experience in a high-volume transportation/warehouse/distribution business environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, contracts and procedural manuals in English. Ability to write reports and correspondence in English. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers. Potential vendors and employees within our organization.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, percentages, area and volume.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, or three to five years warehouse and a minimum of ten years traffic/transportation experience, with a minimum of two years international experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

COMPENSATION RANGE:

$32.94 - $43.82

Salary may vary based on experience.
