Job Description Summary
Nazareth University is seeking an experienced and visionary Chairperson to lead and enhance its nursing education programs. This leadership role offers the opportunity to drive the future of nursing education in one of eight departments of the College of Interprofessional Health & Human Services known for its experiential and interprofessional education initiatives and academic excellence.
The Nursing Chairperson will oversee all aspects of the program, including curriculum development, faculty leadership, accreditation compliance, and student success initiatives. The position requires a dedicated professional with strong organizational, communication, and mentorship skills, as well as a passion for advancing the nursing profession.
Essential Functions
Leadership & Compliance

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for undergraduate and graduate nursing programs to ensure academic excellence and student success.
  • Ensure full compliance with CCNE accreditation standards and NYSED regulations; lead preparation and submission of all required reports.


Curriculum & Program Development

  • Oversee curriculum design, implementation, and continuous improvement aligned with accreditation standards and evolving healthcare needs.
  • Direct the launch and accreditation of the Women's Health Nurse Practitioner Master's Degree program.

Faculty & Student Success

  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty to foster a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
  • Monitor and improve student outcomes including retention, graduation rates, and licensure exam (NCLEX-RN) pass rates.
  • Teach undergraduate or graduate nursing courses as needed.

Budget & Administration

  • Develop and manage a strategic budget aligned with departmental goals.
  • Work closely with the Dean of the College of Interprofessional Health & Human Services as an integral part of a dedicated team of chairs and program directors.

External Relations

  • Represent the department on university committees and initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with healthcare organizations and community partners to support clinical placements and professional opportunities for students.


Required Education, Experience, Technology and Skills

Required Education and Experience

  • Current, unencumbered RN license with eligibility for New York State licensure.
  • Graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, or EdD) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in nursing education, preferably as a Program Director, Department Chair, or similar role.
  • Expertise in accreditation processes, healthcare trends, and nursing education standards.
  • Strong record of teaching, curriculum development, and academic assessment.
  • Proven ability to lead curriculum design, faculty development, and student engagement.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with liberal arts education and mentoring in a student-centered academic environment.
  • Proficiency with educational technologies and learning management systems.



Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills

  • Experience with pedagogy for online instruction in nursing education.
  • Familiarity with simulation education methodologies.



Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee nine full time faculty members and one staff member
