Job Description

This role is a key part of our IT team, responsible for designing, building, managing, and supporting our complex network infrastructure across campus and in the cloud. The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for analyzing and documenting, as well as configuring, maintaining, and monitoring network systems, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless networks, and network segmentation solutions.

You'll provide hands-on technical support to colleagues and stakeholders, both in person and remotely, helping to keep our network running smoothly. Staying up to date with the latest networking and cloud technologies is crucial. The ability to stay calm under pressure, think clearly during high-stress situations, and communicate effectively is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, configure, and maintain complex campus and cloud networks, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless networks, and segmentation solutions
  • Develop and maintain network architecture, diagrams, and documentation
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity or performance issues
  • Lead network projects such as network refreshes, expansions, micro segmentation deployments, and testing initiatives
  • Implement network security best practices, including segmentation, access controls, and monitoring
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure consistent network reliability and support for campus services
  • Provide technical support to colleagues and stakeholders
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including network automation, monitoring, and optimization
  • Mentor and coach other engineers or IT staff as needed
  • Follow established processes for incident response, service requests, and change management
Shift

This position is on site Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional after-hours, night, weekend, or holiday work as needed to support critical incidents, maintenance, or network project implementations. Limited travel may be required for professional development or inter-campus collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelors degree and 6 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience; Master's degree in a related field is a plus
  • Five or more years of professional network engineering experience in enterprise or higher education environments
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, wireless, cloud networking, and network security
  • Experience with network design, segmentation, and large-scale network implementations
  • Ability to organize work, maintain documentation, and follow standard procedures
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to perform under pressure
  • Experience with enterprise networking platforms such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, or Aruba
  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or Wireshark
  • Experience with firewalls, VPNs, RDP/SSH access controls, and micro segmentation
  • Exposure to scripting or automation tools such as Python or PowerShell
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
  • Curiosity, reliability, and motivation to grow a long-term career in networking
  • 8+ years work experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $69,097-$130,000 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
