Description

Function:

Reporting to the Director of the LGBTQIA+ Aging Project, the Director of the Massachusetts Commission on Aging is an administrative, professional and management position responsible for planning, developing, implementing, directing and advocating for the Commission.

Representative Duties:

Oversee Management of the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Aging

  • Advocate for LGBTQ older adults in Massachusetts
  • Implement Commission's 2025-2030 Strategic Plan
  • Identify, plan and develop short term and long -term goals and objectives for annual workplan; monitors and reports on goal achievement
  • Develop, administer and oversee written policies and procedures for the Commission
  • Plan, organize and direct the preparation of reports to legislature, Commission and public
  • Convene Commission meetings - set agenda, minutes, etc.
  • Convene Commission working groups
  • Collaborate with Commission co-chairs and their legislative staff
  • Collaborate with Commission members
  • Recruit new Commission members
  • Collaborate with other related/relevant Commissions, LGBTQ community groups and aging services
  • Update Commission's website and social media platforms
  • Provide written and verbal testimony to legislature on issues of relevance to Commission's priorities
  • Promote public recognition of Commission through media, public appearances, participation in conferences

  • Adhere to all agency and departmental policies and procedures
  • Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
  • Adhere to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality
  • Adhere to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation
  • Attend all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
  • Maintain professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
  • Serve on agency committees and in professional organizations when requested

Performs other duties as related

Requirements
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Experience working with an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse work staff preferred
  • Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals require
  • Must be able and willing to travel throughout the state of Massachusetts.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Familiarity with LGBTQIA+ issues
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts' LGBTQIA+ communities
  • Familiarity with older adults' issues and needs
  • Familiarity with the Massachusetts aging service network
