DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role offers a scientific and technical internship aimed at facilitating the planning and execution of comprehensive waterbody surveys crucial for monitoring and assessing the surface waters within the Commonwealth. Key responsibilities include the collection of macroinvertebrates, freshwater mussels, fish, habitat data, and various water quality indicators. The intern will also support maintenance of equipment.
Furthermore, the position involves the organization, assessment, and integration of data collected from monitoring efforts, following established protocols. Laboratory processing of benthic macroinvertebrate, freshwater mussel, and fish samples obtained during surveys is also required. A vital aspect of this role is to contribute to the Department's mission by accurately entering data into specified formats that meet quality standards, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the information while employing system-specific tools to reduce redundancy and enhance data integrity.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2026 through 8/28/2026
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on a schedule that aligns with the supervisor. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- Enrollment in good academic standing as a FULL-TIME student in a bachelor's, or advanced degree program in:
- Biology
- Fisheries and Wildlife
- Environmental Science
- An approved major course at an accredited college or university.
- Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
- Freshman year completed by May 2026
- Pennsylvania residency or enrollment of a Pennsylvania college or university.
Additional Requirements:
- You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
