Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a highly motivated and skilled junior to midlevel litigation associate to join our dynamic Healthcare Practice Group in Sacramento. This role provides the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact managed care and healthcare-related disputes while supporting marquee clients in the healthcare industry.

The associate will primarily focus on representing hospitals and healthcare providers in arbitration and litigation involving disputes with commercial health plans, Medicare Advantage plans, and managed Medi-Cal programs. The position also offers exposure to operational and compliance counseling for healthcare entities, along with the chance to collaborate on groundbreaking matters with leading attorneys in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent hospitals and healthcare providers in complex managed care disputes, including reimbursement denials and disputes over medical necessity.
  • Serve as part of the legal team in high-stakes arbitration and litigation, assisting in drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents.
  • Participate in discovery efforts, including managing large document productions, and preparation for deposition, hearing witnesses, and evidence for hearings.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to deliver high-quality work product.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in California (or eligibility for admission).
  • 2-4 years of law firm civil litigation experience, with a strong focus on legal writing, oral advocacy, and strategic case management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in litigation tasks, including legal research, drafting pleadings, managing discovery, and supporting pretrial preparations.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to specialize in managed care litigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Managed care litigation experience welcome but not required; candidates with a demonstrated interest in healthcare law are strongly encouraged to apply.

The annualized salary range for this position in California is $215,000 to $290,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate's education, training, experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full time employees may be eligible for a bonus and health insurance with an optional HSA, long term disability, dental insurance, vision care, life insurance, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, 401(k), vacation, sick time, 10 paid holidays each year and an employee assistance program. For full-time employees, the initial sick leave benefit is 80 hours of sick leave per year. Attorneys generally take approximately three weeks of vacation from work each year, and it may vary depending on the needs of the clients and the firm. Additional voluntary benefits programs include: voluntary accident insurance, voluntary life, voluntary disability, voluntary long-term care, and pet insurance. Commuter and Transit programs are also available.
