Brief Overview

The Pediatric Integrated Care Psychologist delivers brief assessments, evidence-based interventions, consultation, and training to medical teams and families to support the behavioral, emotional, developmental, and psychosocial needs of children and adolescents.

They may contribute actively to program development and QI activities, serve as an educator, role model and mentor, and participate in local, regional, and national professional activities. They may engage in clinical research as appropriate for their role.

What you will do.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver brief, evidence-based behavioral health interventions (e.g., CBT, parent management training, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care) for patients ages [e.g., 0-21].

  • Conduct focused behavioral health assessments and problem-focused diagnostic evaluations appropriate for integrated care (screening results, triage, differential diagnosis, safety/risk assessment).

  • Provide warm handoffs and real-time consultation to pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and other medical staff during clinic visits.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and case conferences with medical providers, care coordinators, and community partners.

  • Implement and monitor measurement-based care using standardized screening tools (e.g., PHQ-A, PSC-17, GAD-7, ACEs screens) and track outcomes.

  • Provide brief follow-up visits, stepped-care planning, and referrals to specialty mental health when indicated.

  • Deliver caregiver-focused interventions (parent coaching, behavior management, psychoeducation) to support disease management and adherence (e.g., ADHD, Depression, Anxiety).

  • Address behavioral aspects of medical conditions (coping with chronic illness, procedure anxiety, adherence, sleep problems, and feeding issues).

  • Provide crisis assessment and safety planning in collaboration with medical and mental health teams; coordinate emergency referrals as needed.

  • Develop and deliver training and education for pediatric primary care staff on behavioral health topics, screening tools, and integrated workflows.

  • May contribute to quality improvement initiatives, program evaluation, and data collection to support integrated care outcomes.

  • Maintain timely documentation in the electronic health record and ensure compliance with billing, confidentiality (HIPAA), and clinic policies.

  • Engage with families and community resources to support social determinants of health and access to services.

  • Clinical Activity

  • Performs clinical services at a percentage of effort as designated by the supervisor.

  • Adheres to DCAPBS productivity standards.

  • In settings where patients are scheduled into appointments, presents an Epic schedule that rolls out, per department/division guidelines, delineating availability and anticipated, vacation and conference time. Schedule must include enough openings to cover productivity expectations plus anticipated late cancellations/no shows.

  • Follows all CHOP and DCAPBS policies and procedures regarding clinical and administrative activity associated with providing direct patient care.

  • Assure that professional practice is in accordance with applicable professional and licensing body standards.

  • Practices as an Independent Behavioral Health Clinician.

  • Assures that CHOP, DCAPBS, Joint Commission, and other regulatory bodies' patient care standards are met.

  • Assures that all CHOP and DCAPBS clinical and billing documentation standards are met.

  • Assures that all the above standards are met through regular and periodic direct observation of clinical activity, chart review, and discussion with non-DCAPBS team members.

  • May develop clinical and treatment protocols, peer education programs, and monitor compliance through direct observation and chart review.

  • May collaborate with other DCAPBS clinicians to operationalize and grow empirically based models of care that best serve the needs of patients and families.

  • Acting as a resource and mentor for DCAPBS clinicians

  • Demonstrating leadership in developing programs and designing/executing QI and/or patient safety initiatives

  • Collaborate with DCAPBS and other Department/Division colleagues to ensure that patients receive care consistent with the patient's circumstances and needs.

  • Respond to requests for consultation and service in a timely manner.

  • Participates in DCAPBS and CHOP committees in membership and/or leadership capacity.

  • Work collaboratively with DCAPBS administration to ensure that patients are appropriately scheduled.

  • Attends and participates in department/division/institution meetings appropriate for or required by role.

  • Participates in education and training within the department's training programs. This may include providing clinical supervision, lectures, and facilitated learning experiences.

  • Establishes themselves as providing high-quality educational experiences for department trainees.

  • Contributes to interprofessional training activities and experiences.

  • Participates in activities of the training faculty.

  • Engages in professional activities.

  • Membership in national professional organizations, for example, American Psychological Association (APA)

  • Active in multiple DCAPBS, CHOP, regional, and national activities

  • Participates in the dissemination of psychological science and/or clinical care at a local, regional, or national level.

  • Conducts research of significant scientific value relevant to their practice specialty.

  • May collaborate on data analysis and dissemination of findings.

  • Composes/assists in developing publications for peer-reviewed, scientific journals.

  • May assist with the submission of applications for grants/contracts for funding of research projects.

  • Responsible for the appropriate use of research funds.

  • May provide psychological services, supervision, and consultation within research protocols.

  • Demonstrates commitment to Department/Division and hospital strategic goals.

  • Completes all mandatory education requirements, annual PPD testing, flu vaccine, and other vaccinations as per CHOP policy.

  • Maintain licensure, including completion of required continuing education.

  • Collaborates with internal staff to complete CHOP requirements, including but not limited to Medical Staff Application

  • Establish plans for professional growth with a supervisor.

  • Participates in clinical program development.

  • Participates in community service.

  • Participates in ongoing professional practice evaluations as a clinician and peer reviewer.

May assist with the submission of applications for grants/ contracts for funding of research or projects.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED - Required

  • Bachelor's Degree - Required

  • Doctorate in Psychology - Required

Experience Qualifications

  • APA or CPA Accredited internship training - Required and

  • Completed post-doctoral training in child and adolescent-focused psychology - Required
