Job Summary

92NY School Engagement in the Arts is seeking dynamic, experienced Visual Arts Teaching Artists to lead in-school arts residencies across NYC public schools in the Bronx as part of our 2025-2026 Discover Together Program.

Teaching Artists will design and implement multi-week, hands-on visual arts sessions at Title I NYC public schools (Grades K-12), inspiring students to explore creativity, artistic expression, and skill development. Lessons incorporate age-appropriate techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, encouraging students to experiment, collaborate, and develop their unique artistic voice.

This role emphasizes delivering rigorous, engaging, and accessible visual arts experiences within a public school classroom framework.

Teaching Artists work closely with 92NY staff, classroom teachers, and school administrators to co-develop lesson plans and ensure instruction is responsive to the needs of diverse student populations. Assignments are tailored to each artist's individual strengths and expertise to create the most effective and inspiring classroom experiences.



Job Responsibilities Include

    Partner schools are located across Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan.
  • Deliver multi-week engaging, student-centered lessons per participating class.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment that encourages participation, creativity, and joy in theater-making.
  • Communicate proactively with 92NY staff and classroom teachers to ensure smooth program delivery and address successes and challenges.
  • Arrive punctually and fully prepared for each school visit.
  • Document each class through photos and student testimonials, in alignment with program guidelines.
  • Represent 92NY and the School Engagement Department with professionalism, warmth, and enthusiasm.
  • Attend all required trainings, meetings, and professional development sessions.
  • Maintain open, consistent communication with program staff-seeking support when needed and contributing to a collaborative teaching community.


Experience, Education, & Skills Desired

  • 3-5 years of experience teaching Visual Arts in public school classroom settings; experience with Grades K-5 strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and re-engage large classroom groups with varied learning needs.
  • Commitment to inclusive, student-centered instruction and fostering positive classroom culture.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
  • Experience implementing culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy.
  • Availability during designated NYC public school hours.
  • Pre-existing fingerprint clearance through the NYC and New York State Departments of Education preferred.
  • Spanish proficiency a plus.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities a plus.


Work Environment & Requirements

January 2026 - May 2026

Must be available during designated NYC public school hours (8:00 AM-2:30 PM)
