Reporting to the President & CEO, the Vice President of Development will be a key member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and play an essential role in developing philanthropic strategies (identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship) and in ensuring the philanthropic goals are successfully met. The VP will be an experienced and entrepreneurial fundraising professional, who will work with the Council's ELT to build a dynamic, innovative, and sustainable financial base for the Council. The Vice President will build, lead, and manage a team focused on individual fundraising (Board, major gifts, and annual fund), institutional donors (corporations, foundations, and government entities), and fundraising/private events, such as the annual Global Leadership Awards Dinner. This position will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team to cultivate and sustain a culture of philanthropy, collaborating across all Council departments to develop, innovate, and maximize fundraising initiatives. Initially overseeing a team of two full-time staff members, the VP will strategically guide the department's growth to achieve and sustain annual philanthropic support of $12 million. The Vice President will demonstrate initiative and skill in cultivating and sustaining meaningful relationships with donors and prospects, including philanthropic leaders, emerging next-generation supporters, and corporate executives. Founded in 1922, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing knowledge and engagement in global affairs. Their in-depth analysis and expert-led public opinion research influence policy conversations and inform the insights we share with their growing community. Through a unique combination of events and engagement experiences, leadership development programs, and public opinion research and analysis, they help more people deepen their understanding of the world and how they can make a tangible impact, in ways big and small. A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least twelve years of fundraising experience, preferably with individual giving at a leadership level, is required. The salary range for this position is $200,000 to $215,000.
