Job Description

UMSL is seeking a Communications Coordinator and Dean's Assistant who will provide high-level administrative support to the Dean of the Ed G. Smith College of Business while playing a key role in developing and coordinating the college's marketing and communications efforts. This individual will be responsible for organizing, building, and leading a marketing strategy that aligns with both the university's broader marketing initiatives and the College of Business' strategic goals.

Reporting directly to the Dean, this position will be essential to daily operations, including supporting college-wide communication and event initiatives. A significant component of this role involves producing and overseeing student focused content that is engaging, relevant, and designed to enhance student retention initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing/Communication - 80%

  • Serve as the brand manager for the College of Business to ensure all work maintains messaging and visual identity consistent with UMSL brand strategy including communications from student organizations and academic programs.
  • Build effective relationships with students, campus colleagues, and partners to maximize opportunities for collaboration and support.
  • Manage multiple social media accounts including developing engaging posts, videos, and graphics to promote the College of Business and related events, monitor and respond to comments.
  • Timely identify and escalate concerns to the Dean and campus public relations.
  • Produce content in multiple formats including both vertical and horizontal video formats, social media, websites, flyers, newsletters, and email; quickly execute and manage content development in those areas to a high level of quality utilizing multiple platforms.
  • Develop and deliver monthly newsletters to current students, campus community leaders, and alumni.
  • Write and edit press releases, emails, scripts/talking points, newsletters, website content, and social media posts for stakeholders.
  • Create engaging visuals, including infographics and presentations, to support communication efforts.
  • Schedule photo shoots and serve as back-up photographer as needed.
  • Partner with UMSL's campus marketing team to ensure alignment of messages, remain abreast of best practices, and to ensure compliance with the University's web and digital policies and style guides.

Administrative - 20%

  • Manage end-to-end logistics for several annual signature events held on and off campus including reservations, food, promotional items, etc.
  • Register the Dean for conferences, campus events, and external engagements; coordinate related logistics.
  • Process expenses, reimbursements, invoices, contracts, and related financial documentation in accordance with university policies.
  • Monitor deadlines, track action items, and ensure timely follow-up on behalf of the Dean.
  • May assist with the Dean's calendar, including scheduling meetings, appointments, and events.
  • Support daily office operations and assist with special projects as needed.

Shift

40 hours/week. Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM, in person, no remote work. There may be occasionally events outside the normal business
hours.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Experience which demonstrates exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Proven track record of producing high quality digital media content.
  • Event planning or project management experience.
  • Proven ability to communicate persuasively and professionally with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to proactively identify communications and marketing opportunities and develop supporting creative materials.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities with a sense of urgency.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms, content management systems, and basic graphic design software.
  • Familiarity with Emma, iModules, and video editing.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $21.71-$30.90 hourly
Grade: GGS-009
