Grants and Contracts Manager – OPS 2025-03

The Operations team is looking for a Grants and Contracts Manager to manage grant and contract administration in a fast-paced, high volume non-profit. SFEI has $50M in government funded grants and contracts. We partner with federal, state, and local government agencies to provide essential data and knowledge to improve water quality and protect human and ecological health. We also have a growing development program that includes grants with philanthropic entities and non-governmental funders.

We are looking for a senior person who can manage our grants and contracts, provide project level accounting and reconciliation, develop subcontracting agreements, participate in annual audits, and provide financial reporting for federally funded projects. 

 

Primary position responsibilities will include:

·         Review, implement, and manage government and philanthropic grants and contracts, including review of legal language, highlighting potential issues, and communicating essential information to project managers

·         Work with project managers and principal investigators on project accounting and reconciliation

·         Reconnaissance and problem solving on contractual and project accounting issues

·         Financial management of federal grants including SF-425 reports, annual preparation of the federal Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate (NICRA) rate and reconciliation

·         Participate in the annual audit including management of the single audit

·         Oversight of subcontracting to external entities

·         Supervision of contracts staff

Qualifications

Required Experience

·         Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Nonprofit Management (including financial and accounting course work) + minimum 15 years of experience in government contracting experience (state, federal, local)

·         Master’s degree in Business Administration or Nonprofit Management (including financial and accounting course work) + minimum 13 years of experience in government contracting experience (state, federal, local)

Required Skills

·         Experience reviewing legal contractual documents, including the handling of intellectual property, artificial intelligence, and other work products

·         Experience using complex accounting software

·         Ability to identify, research, and resolve intricate problems related to a billable project model

·         Ability to develop systems for workflows

·         Organizational skills for high level project financial reporting and reconciliation

·         Ability to set, develop, and manage high-level expectations for grant operations

·         Ability to collaborate with a wide range of staff

·         Experience managing and supervising a team

·         Strong attention to financial details, when required

·         Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

·         Minimum 5-6 years of non-profit audit experience

Preferred Skills

·         Understanding of Project Management concepts

·         Experience working with Boards of Directors

·         Demonstrated proficiency in Excel and/or other spreadsheet software
