Overview

Texas Oncology - Waco has an opening for a certified or board eligible medical physicist! The successful candidate will be part of the Central Texas Region, which has a 16 physicists, a medical physics assistant, two medical physics residents, and 17 dosimetrists covering nine facilities in the Austin and surrounding region. This group supports 10 radiation oncologists in busy practice settings. The Waco position will provide onsite medical physics coverage for the Waco location alongside a float physicist, and work together with 6 other physicists to remotely share chart coverage for three additional sites.

Texas Oncology is the largest community oncology rovider in the country and has approximately 600+ providers in 220+ sites across Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. The Waco center supports one Radiation Oncologist with 1.5 medical physicists, two dosimetrists, one CT tech, and four radiation therapists. The Waco center offers a wide range of special procedures, including SRS, SBRT, HDR, LDR, and radiopharmaceuticals. The clinic is currently installing a new Varian Truebeam with VisionRT, they have a GE CT simulator with deviceless 4D capabilities, and an Elekta microSelectron HDR afterloader that is slated for replacement with the Varian Bravos system in 2027. The Central Texas region uses a shared Aria/Eclipse database, Radcalc, MIM, and SNC Routine.

The Central Texas physics group is a highly collaborative team. Physicists work on a 4-10's schedule and have opportunities for some remote work as the clinic schedule allows. IMRT QA and monthly mechanical QA is completed by the medical physics assistant. The region also utilizes a remote PRN physicist as needed to assist with vacation coverage. Physicists in the region have the opportunity to work closely with medical physics residents, if desired, as well as with dosimetry students and radiation therapy students. Texas Oncology offers a mock oral exam for those candidates pursuing board certification.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Full range of on-site clinical medical physics support to include HDR, SRS, SBRT.
  • Support and participate in physics support for the North Dallas Region
  • Occasionally, as needed, travel to sites within the region for on-site physics support
  • Determines the need for, specifies, and accesses dosimetric and treatment planning equipment including, but not limited to, measurement instruments to calibrate all treatment equipment and monitoring devices, computerized treatment planning systems, computerized water phantom systems with appropriate ionization chambers and diodes, etc.
  • Advises and consults with physicians to provide advice or direction to technical staff when patients are being planned or treated.

Qualifications

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a Master's degree or PhD in Physics or Medical Physics from an accredited college or university.
  • Must be ABR certified, or have completed a CAMPEP approved residency and be board eligible, and have working experience in a clinical environment.
  • Texas Medical Board license required or must be obtained.
