Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $103,510 - $137,121. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Product Engineering? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Product Engineering team. As an Assistant Manager - Product Engineering, you'll be crucial in ensuring continued innovation and supporting our diverse team.

The Assistant Manager - Product Engineering is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the Product Engineering team, with a focus on short-term plans and goal setting. The Assistant Manager works under the guidance of the Senior Manager and focuses on scheduling work, ensuring short-term results, and supporting daily operations. They have limited to no budget accountability but play a key role in executing tactical plans and managing the team's workload.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Day-to-Day Leadership: Support the oversight of product engineering activities for assigned product lines, focusing on short-term operational goals and ensuring work is scheduled and completed on time.
  • Goal Setting: Set and manage short-term operational goals for the product engineering team, ensuring alignment with tactical plans set by senior leaders.
  • Continuous Product Improvement: Drive initiatives to reduce costs, simplify designs, and implement product recommendations that align with business strategy. Help drive product improvements by supporting cost reduction, design simplification, and other short-term initiatives to improve product lines.
  • Customer Feedback: Assist in managing product feedback and issues that arise from Salesforce or other sources, ensuring that the team addresses customer concerns promptly.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with quality assurance and production operations to ensure product designs meet quality and manufacturing standards. Offer technical support and guidance to engineers on smaller projects, assisting them in meeting engineering and operational goals.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Generate technical documentation, procedures, and reports to document processes.
  • Leadership & People Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the product engineering team, including scheduling work, tracking progress, and ensuring timely delivery of projects. Manage departmental administrative team member processes, including but not limited to recruitment, induction, vacation management, performance reviews, performance improvement plans, and workforce/succession planning.
  • Continuous Learning: Promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration, promoting cross-functional interactions and knowledge sharing among team members. Drive continuous improvement initiatives for process improvements, gathering feedback, analyzing data, and implementing enhancements to optimize performance and efficiency.
  • Compliance: Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.

  • Attend in-person or virtual meetings as requested or required.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with others.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Education & Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering field.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Required:

  • 5-7 years of experience in product engineering.
  • Rounded knowledge of S&C's products or similar product offerings.
  • Sound knowledge of product lifecycles, manufacturing processes, and industry trends within electrical manufacturing.
  • Rounded project management skills with the ability to lead projects and product implementations.
  • Ability to plan and manage short-term goals, scheduling, and day-to-day team operations.
  • Sound business sense and analytical skills with the ability to use and analyze data to drive informed decisions, solve complex problems, and drive learning.
  • Rounded communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and presentation); able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders at and present compellingly.
  • Great interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect, navigate and resolve conflict, moderate behaviors, and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience.
  • Ability to travel.

Preferred

  • Expertise in problem-solving methodologies such as 4SPS, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Leadership experience.

Major Physical Demands:

Sitting - Continuously required to remain in a stationary position and perform desk-based tasks.

Walking - Frequently required to walk moderate distances.

Manual Dexterity - Occasionally required to use hand-eye coordination to control both hands and arms for a full range of motion to operate equipment.

Observation / Eyesight - Frequently required to observe details at close range, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to differentiate between colors.

Communication - Continuously required to talk and hear, in person and by phone/conference calls

Travel - Infrequently required to travel and work extended hours when necessary.

Environmental & Hazardous Conditions:

Frequently working indoors/outdoors in an air-conditioned/non-air-conditioned office/manufacturing/site-based environment

Occasionally exposure to fumes/vapors/dust/gases/odors/mist/toxic chemicals/radiation/vibration/grease/oils/radiation/lasers/other etc.

Occasionally exposed to low/moderate/high noise levels including machinery/vehicles/forklifts/office equipment/office traffic etc.

Infrequently working around energized equipment with the risk of electrocution/scalding/burns/other etc.

Infrequently exposed to wet humid/outdoor weather/extreme cold (non-weather)/extreme heat (non-weather) conditions/other etc.

Occasionally working with machinery with moving parts/vehicles/forklifts/heavy machinery/sharp objects/other etc.
