Description

The Infrastructure Role is responsible for effective provisions, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of data center systems hardware and software and related infrastructure for MSU Federal Credit Union. This includes, but is not limited to, physical hardware, storage devices, virtualization, windows OS, data center and domain functions. Additional tasks include installing/configuring new hardware, system performance tuning and general maintenance (logs, backups, patching, etc.). The position is also responsible for monitoring the systems and services and planning for upgrades and future expansion. This individual ensures that system hardware, server operating systems, infrastructure software systems and related procedures adhere to organizational core values. Activities include the scoping of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research and development within the project lifecycle; technical analysis and design; and support of staff in executing, testing and rolling-out solutions for the IT infrastructure.

Work Arrangement: This position is able to work onsite, hybrid, or remote (must reside within the State of Michigan).

To be considered for this role, candidate must currently reside, or have plans to reside upon hire, within the state of Michigan as described above. Occasional travel on a quarterly basis to MSUFCU Headquarters (East Lansing, MI) may be needed.

Department Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm ET.

An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid/remote) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment.

Compensation & Benefits:



  • Salary Range:

    • Infrastructure Administrator - $70,000 - $85,000+ annually, depending on experience
    • Infrastructure Engineer - $85,000 - $105,000+ annually, depending on experience
    • Infrastructure Architect - $105,000 - $135,000+ annually, depending on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Administrator -



  • Provide Tier III technical support in accurately troubleshooting or researching infrastructure systems and software so that problems are resolved quickly without significant interruption to service. This can include on-site or remote support.
  • Maintain and monitor Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, Exchange, and Group Policy.
  • Rack, monitor and maintain physical and virtual server environment and SAN/NAS storage systems.
  • Install patches and upgrades to infrastructure hardware, firmware, and/or software.
  • Responsible for physical storage media management (i.e., extending file systems, storage on demand, server disk drives, tape backup devices, etc.)
  • Tier III Administration and maintenance of Active Directory user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Configure & perform daily infrastructure monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server and storage resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs.
  • Coordinate the maintenance or repair of infrastructure hardware.
  • Monitor, and maintain procedures, programs, and documentation for infrastructure backups/restoration, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Assist in the planning, design, documentation, and implementation of various credit union infrastructure systems.
  • Effectively communicate with employees and/or external vendors to gather information or resolve incidents.
  • Coordinate within cross-functional teams to support and maintain the Data Center environments. Adhere to industry standard hardware installation and cabling practices while maintaining the security and integrity of the data, infrastructure systems, and networks.
  • Work with third-party vendors to configure, and support systems that interface with the credit union's infrastructure. Act as the liaison between third party vendors and the credit union.
  • Communicate project progress to project sponsors and management in meetings and by making timely updates to the department's ticketing and project management systems.
  • Ensure that infrastructure system security meets the organization and industry standards and that any findings are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain the integrity of network security through security updates and patches for systems.
  • Manage and document infrastructure system configurations.
  • Proactively suggest new techniques and technologies to improve system reliability.
  • Develops requests for proposal by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation plans and dependencies.
  • Plan, prioritize, estimate, manage, and deliver projects and work efforts on time.
  • Provides on-call support on a rotating schedule or as needed for emergencies, including outside of normal business hours.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to less experienced personnel.
  • Identify and communicate any system problem, hardware problem, or usage problem whereby the integrity of credit union and/or member data may be compromised or impaired.
  • Keep management advised of any on-going problems not being resolved satisfactorily or that prevent the fulfillment of responsibilities.
  • Participate in training activities within your department or branch and with the learning and talent development department; such training helps to ensure staff compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws.
  • Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned.


      Infrastructure Engineer -



      • All IT Infrastructure Administrator duties and responsibilities
      • Research and plan for implementation of new techniques and technologies to improve processes and system reliability.
      • Assist with the development, analysis and enhancement of infrastructure back-up and disaster recovery plans.
      • Help to further define requests for proposal by assembling additional information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation; writing, revising, and editing drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.
      • Have a proven track record of being able to plan, prioritize, estimate, manage, and deliver highly complex projects and work efforts on time.
      • Generate metrics, project status reports, and operating status reports for management and team members.
      • Provides mentoring and training to IT infrastructure administrators to help with career development.
      • Coordinate and manage the purchasing and procurement of infrastructure solutions from 3rd party vendors.
      • Help IT infrastructure administrators facilitate meetings with third party vendors and provide support when expectations are not being met.
      • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for recurring tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
      • Coordinate new projects regarding infrastructure system installations and upgrades.


          Infrastructure Architect -



          • All IT Infrastructure Engineer duties and responsibilities.
          • Lead the planning and implementation of technical architecture, including both short and long-term strategies for integrating existing systems and new system implementations. Ensure the design is well considered and supportable.
          • Work with administrators and engineers to design and architect infrastructure disaster recovery, high availability, and business continuity programs.
          • Lead the development and enhancement of documentation relating to research, future directions, architectural frameworks, server platform performance, and strategic recommendations.
          • Lead the creation and implementation of a capacity planning strategy for future growth.
          • Evaluate and interpret industry trends in IT infrastructure systems to serve as a source of information and advice for credit union management.
          • Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people.
          • Regularly provide advice to management or other employees while identifying recommended actions to solve complex problems.
          • Initiate discussions and partner with leadership across various business units to evaluate, define, and satisfy business needs.
          • Revise and/or analyze IT Standards and Procedures to improve processes and produce efficiencies.
          • Coordinate complex infrastructure system development tasks to include design, integration, and formal testing.


            Job Requirements:

            Infrastructure Administrator -



            • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
            • Associates or bachelor's degree preferred, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science.
            • Knowledge of or experience with server/storage virtualization technologies such as VMWare, Hyper-V or Citrix; Compellent, EMC or NetApp.
            • Experience with Active Directory, DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP and Exchange.
            • Previous experience maintaining a server environment or working in an enterprise data center, specifically in the financial industry preferred.
            • Basic knowledge and practice of fundamental project management processes, methodologies, and tools and techniques and ability to adapt them to organization.
            • Experience working with project management methodologies and tools to manage complex project activities and project coordination.
            • VMware VCP, MCSE, CCNA or equivalent certification preferred.
            • Knowledge of critical infrastructure, applications and programs utilized by the credit union.
            • Exhibit a positive attitude and commitment to excellence.
            • Aptitude to learn new technologies quickly.

                Infrastructure Engineer -



                • All IT Infrastructure Administrator knowledge, skills, and abilities.
                • Highly organized and have superior analytical and problem solving skills.
                • Comprehensive experience managing a complex server environment or working in an enterprise data center, preferably in the financial industry.
                • Advanced level experience with server/storage virtualization technologies such as VMWare, Hyper-V or Citrix; Compellent, EMC or NetApp.
                • Advanced level experience with Active Directory, DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP and Exchange.
                • Intermediate knowledge or experience with project management tools and methodologies to manage complex project activities and project coordination.
                • Increased awareness of business issues and how these issues affect overall project delivery.
                • Intermediate knowledge and practice of fundamental project management processes, methodologies, and tools and techniques and ability to adapt them to organization.
                • Keen understanding of security risks and evangelize the importance of following security procedures.
                • Proven ability to decide and implement strategies that are in line with overall technology strategy.
                • Growing knowledge of credit union and financial industry products including rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.


                    Infrastructure Architect -



                    • All IT Infrastructure Engineer knowledge, skills, and abilities
                    • Extensive, comprehensive managing a highly complex server environment and/or managing an enterprise data center, preferably in the financial industry.
                    • Expert level experience with server/storage virtualization technologies such as VMWare, Hyper-V, or Citrix; Compellent, EMC, or NetApp.
                    • Expert level experience with Active Directory, DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP, and Exchange.
                    • Enterprise-level experience with traditional and software defined networking technologies such as F5, Brocade, or Cisco.
                    • Advanced experience or knowledge with project management tools and methodologies to manage complex project activities and project coordination.
                    • Advanced experience or knowledge with MS Visio or similar to create and maintain architecture and data flow diagrams.
                    • Experience planning and implementing system life cycle processes.
                    • Experience designing high availability production, disaster recovery, and test environments.
                    • Advanced knowledge and practice of fundamental project management processes, methodologies and tools and techniques, and ability to adapt them to organization.
                    • Exceptional coordination, organization, and communication abilities.
                    • An increased ability to analyze complex situations and problems and is able to perform the necessary research to arrive at innovative solutions.
                    • Experience in a technical leadership role, whether formal or informal, within complex infrastructure projects.

                      Physical Demands and Work Environment:



                      • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period.
                      • Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment, and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
                      • Occasionally needs to move about inside of an office area.
                      • Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure.
